where do the daemon start up errors go...

I noticed that when I restarted my computer, after adding/changing some daemons in rc.conf, that there were errors on the start of fam, dbus and hal.  There was also an error (they failed during the start up script) on firestarter asking about portmap.  I am confident enough in my knowledge that I can fix the problem but I need to know where I can take a look at the errors more closely.  I have looked at about all /var/log files.  Listed below are my DAEMONS from rc.conf:

(syslog-ng fam !pcmcia firestarter network dbus hal crond alsa cups)

Any help is appreciated.

Have you looked at what running <code>dmesg</code> gives you?

whatever daemons are causing the problem, just re-run them. chances are if they have the problem on boot, they'll have it when you re-run them.

as for dmesg, that only applies for kernel related issues.
