slim do not start gnome-session --session=gnome-classic

i allways used gdm but i wanted to try something more easy and customizeable
so i changed to slim and want to load the gnome classic mode after login

i put this commandline in my ~/.xinitrc file
but it just allways loads the normal gnome mode

exec gnome-session --session=gnome-classic

any ideas why i do not start the normal mode?
thank you

Re: slim do not start gnome-session --session=gnome-classic

i think there is no more gnome-classic, at least for slim.

i change the normal gnome to classic with the shell extentions.

Re: slim do not start gnome-session --session=gnome-classic

I think shulamy misunderstood you. GNOME Classic is a session for for GNOME which uses extensions to create a GNOME 2 like interface. To start the GNOME Classic session, the line in your .xinitrc file needs to be this:

exec env GNOME_SHELL_SESSION_MODE=classic gnome-session --session gnome-classic

I'll update the GNOME wiki page accordingly.
