Mozilla FireFox 0.8

I would like to see arch with the upgrade of mozilla-firebird 0.7
the new mozilla-firefox 0.8 since this is the best open source browser.
I dont like epiphany or any other browser.

and congrats arch for this GREAT distro smile

Re: Mozilla FireFox 0.8

The proper way is to flag a package out of date, but, if you check for firebird on
http://www.archlinux.org/packages.php?id=1899
.. this already happened :-) ...

The upgrade to firefox is in progress.  We're making sure everything will still work good.

Re: Mozilla FireFox 0.8

WE NEED KDE 3.2
WE WANT FIREFOX

but we won't make it ourselves noooooo sir!

damned stop that, build the package(s) yourself or wait untill it's done. The maintainers are working their asses off  to keep this distro as bleeding egde as possible!

I for one will wait untill the package is in the repo's since it failed building on my own system, otherwise I would have uploaded it today to /incoming!

If I remember correctly, that was the GCC update that fudged up my system. Maybe that has something to do with my tolerance. wink

Re: Mozilla FireFox 0.8

Ok. bah too :-)

But there is one problem that some people (like me) may experience after upgrade from mozilla-firebird to mozilla-firefox. If you installed previously some extensions for mozilla-firebird than you may get this message:

"Error launching browser window:no XBL binding for browser"

just after starting mozilla-firefox. The browser will not work. That's because some extensions are "incompatibile" (like tabbrowser extension). Solution waits here :-)
http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox … sions.html

UPDATE: Please, be warned that the new firefox may really not work with some previous things from firebird. This is from mozilla site:

It should not be necessary to create a new profile when you upgrade from a previous version of Firefox providing you do disable all extensions  from the prior version before upgrading. To do this, open the old version and open Tools > Options and click the Extensions  panel. Click on each of the extensions listed and choose Disable Extension. Click OK to close the Options window. Now it is safe to install Firefox.

Once you have installed Firefox, check to see if there are new versions of all of your extensions that are compatible with the new version, and install them. In the future this process may be automated.

If you enable an extension from an older version of Firebird or Phoenix and it causes problems, run the older version of the browser and disable the extension, then run the newer version again.

If you encounter strange problems relating to bookmarks, downloads, window placement, toolbars, history, or other settings, it is recommended that you try creating a new profile and attempting to reproduce the problem before filing bugs. Create a new profile by running Firefox with the -P command line argument, choose the "Manage Profiles" button and then choose "Create Profile...". Migrate your settings files (Bookmarks, Saved Passwords, etc) over one by one, checking each time to see if the problems resurface. If you do find a particular profile data file is causing a problem, file a bug and attach the file.

So you should consider waiting for the newer version of firefox if you put a lot of customization work into firebird (this version seems to be released in a little hurry e.g. there is still firebird logo instead of new firefox logo in help/about mozilla firefox - but remember that it's still "technology preview" so it's normal ;-)).

Re: Mozilla FireFox 0.8

Also if one has java and flash working, you will have to do some relinking and copying.
I just copied the  /opt/firebird flash plugins to /opt/firefox and copied over the symlink from
~/.mozilla-firebird to ~/.mozilla-firefox

Re: Mozilla FireFox 0.8

scottro that reminds me that someone should file a bug for the flash plugin because that likely will not work for firefox now.

Re: Mozilla FireFox 0.8

Hmmm. Maybe It could be possible to have both firefox and firebird installed (currently firefox replaces firebird)? There could be a little problem with the same (phoenix) directory with user setup used by both browsers. If I find some time I'll try to check the pkgbuild etc (unless someone else already tried this?).
