Garbage vertical lines on video playback [Solved]

I'm installing arch on an old machine, and have most everything up and running.  I installed kde as my gui.  I installed mplayer, and cannot get that to work.  I've tried playing back a couple of clips of different sorts, but all I get is garbage vertical lines.  I can hear the sound track, so I know it's playing.
I tried xine, and got the same thing.  Any idea what is causing this and how I can fix it?

Re: Garbage vertical lines on video playback [Solved]

Figured it out.  I had an old S3 video card in my stash, and had put that into this machine.  I'd had problems with that card before.  Put in an older card, and it works fine.
