Hi guys! I'm newbie to GNU/Linux, since buy a "lenovo miix2 8" ,I want to replace the win8.1 by archlinux + GNOME,I used universal usb installer to install arch-20140501.daul.iso on usb stick.
then plugged it into device, but the usb drive option isn't apper in boot menu, I've disable the secure boot before.
so i plugged the usb on my friend's dell laptop, it can boot and have the uui "out of the box" problem I've seen in the "USB Flash Installation Media" guide.
Why miix2 8 can't boot from usb drive with secure boot disable status ?

Hello chaoschange, welcome to Arch
Note: As of UUI 1.9.5.2, this does not work out-of-the-box because of a discrepancy in syslinux versions.
Maybe your tablet doesn't support booting from USB sticks --- you may be out of luck here...

Hi,
USB boot works for me. Boot from mini sd does no work.
You need to enable 32-bit uefi boot by copying a bootia32.efi in /boot/EFI on your USB drive, I got mine from xda-dev.
Wait 2-5 secs after pressing Boot Menu in the Novo loader so that it has enough time to detect the UEFI on the USB drive.
It starts into GRUB cmdline and you can start your system via
linux (hd0,gpt1)/arch/i686/boot/vmlinuz nomodeset archisolabel=ARCH_201406
initrd (hd0,gpt1)/arch/i686/boot/archiso.img
boot
I had my first boot success today but the wifi interface isn't showing and i have no solution for that right now.

Welcome to the forums montolla. We discourage necrobumping old threads for exactly this reason: a lot changes in a year. I don't remember exactly when it changed, but not too long ago the installation iso did not support efi booting by default, so (u)efi users had to do some modification. Now the iso fully supports (u)efi booting. So just use the current iso. If you have problems with that feel free to start a new thread, and link to this one if you believe it is actually relevant.
