Hi,
from some day on, i've got a problem where su and sudo commands hang.. aftert i insert the password, and pressed "enter" nothing happen. i can kill with ctrl+c, but again it won't work unless i open up another consolle. this happen even after some sudo/su comman has sucessufully completed in the same tty.
"tty" output in one case was /dev/pts/0, others case i've not looked at it. Consolle is zsh, on Yakuake, seems not to appen on virtual consolle, but maybe just because i almost never use them

I had this issue, too. It started maybe two weeks ago. Happened often, but not all of the time. If it started happening the only solution was to open a new terminal, just as you described.
However, at the moment the issue does not seem to happen anymore. I am not yet sure whether it was fixed by some update or whether I was just lucky.

I have a somewhat similar problem with su, but I am using bash with tmux. Many times, su hangs with
stty -ixon
as the child process ( I have the above in my .bashrc).
Killing the tmux pane fixes the problem.
In my case, entering the password with a small delay prevents this problem from happening.
