Fresh Install - Xorg 7 Nvidia/GLX module issues

Hey all,

I have, for the record, installed Xorg 7 several times, so I am no new to the need for additional modules with the new version of Xorg. I have a proporly configured a functional xorg.conf file that I have used for a while now.

For some reason, after reinstalling Arch, I get the following errors when trying to startx:

(EE) Failed to load module "glx" (module does not exist, 0)
(EE) /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/nvidia_drv.so is an unrecognized module type
(EE) Failed to load module "nvidia" (unknown module type, 6)
(EE) No devices detected

I have instaleld the nvidia driver (After removing libgl-dri as reqested) and checked that the .so files were in their proper locations that is specified in the xorg.conf file.

Can anyone shed some light as to what I broke?

Thanks!!!

Joe

Try

modprobe nvidia

.If that fixes it check the nvidia readme, they show there how to fix it so u don't have to do modprobe everytime u reboot. Also i think with the newer versions u can add a option in the x config to make shure x manages the loading of the module.

I will try that, however, when I do an lsmod |grep nvidia, it pops up like it should.

Well give it a shot though, I have seen weirder things happen wink

Thanks!!!

I get the exact same thing. I also note that the driver files are zero byte files...

I figured oh well and gave up on the nvidia package and tried to install the driver from nvidia's site instead. It installed in /usr/X11R6/lib so I manually moved the files over to /usr/lib/xorg and that got rid of the nvidia X startup errors. Instead I ended up with the errors saying X can't find the 'kbd' driver.  roll

EDIT: it helps if you actually install the drivers... bah, installed xf86-input-keyboard and xf86-input-mouse and all was well again

WOW, I didnt even notice that the files were zero bites... That is a bug in the package I would imagine.

I will manually install.

Thanks!!!

OK, manual installation of the driver and a copy to the propor locations worked.

Thanks!!!

I got that as well, rm'd the package from the cache and pacman -S nvidia and all was well.

you lazy guys should have already reported at flyspray that the nvidia package is broken.
I would prefer to have a symbolic link from /usr/lib/xorg to /usr/X11R6/lib so while several packages will have to be fixed, you are sure it works.
