[SOLVED] Asus P8Z77-V UEFI boot USB ok, HDD not

Hi,

I cant figure out this issue at all. Ive decided to torture myself with UEFI once again (I want a btrfs root partition and syslinux currently does not allow this), whilst I can get the usb live image to UEFI boot without a hitch (looks like the gummiboot interface if im not mistaken), I /cannot/ get my installed system to boot.

sda is formatted as

1  512M                            ef00          mounted  on /boot
2 16G                               8200         swap
3  -remained of drive-     8300         mounted on /

efivarsfs is mounted and gummiboot installs just fine, but the mobo doesnt find any efi partitions.

Edit: /dev/sda1 is formatted as

mkfs.fat -F32 /dev/sda1

I have this MB and use a similar setup.  Grub boots it fine, no idea about gummi though.

Hmm, Ill give grub a try.
Out of curiosity, do you use a seperate /boot and ESP partition or /boot on /, and mount /boot/esp only (or esp as /boot)?

sda1 = ESP
sda2 = boot
sda3 = root

I only mount ESP to /boot/efi when I first installed grub.  See, https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/GR … Z77_Family

Ahh awesome ill give that a try! I think the wiki link (manually adding a firmware entry) might just do the trick with gummi boot too..
At the very least it will be interesting to see if it gummiboot install really managed to do so on its own.

so, grub install worked the first time. I think gummiboot fails to make the relevant firmware entries (though i did try to make them manually via efibootmgr to no avail).

Im marking this as fixed since grub worked, Thanks greysky for givinig me the kick to install it
