lspci | grep VGA
00:01.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Trinity [Radeon HD 7640G]
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Seymour [Radeon HD 6400M/7400M Series] (rev ff)

Have you tried editting the kernel parameters?
Have you tried the other option on that wiki page?
If so, maybe try installing xfce4-power-manager: this is required by my gf's laptop to enable the brightness buttons...

Thank you very much for the reply. Adding:
acpi='!Windows 2012' acpi_backlight=vendor
as kernel parameters solved, now brightness control is working, also through keys-combination. Thanks again for the help.
