After installing i cannot get sound to work and the network daemon complains about not being able to find a network card. Both alsamixer and alsaconf fail because they cannot find a soundcard.
My soundcard is intel8x0 & my network card is a SiS900 both integrated and both worked previously.
I cant find refernce to them from lsmod but then idont have much experience with linux modules.

Do i need to manually specify the drivers to be loaded? If so how?
Thanks!

Have you MOD_AUTOLOAD="yes" in rc.conf?
Offline
No i kept the old rc.conf after i upgraded
Well at least it was an easy fix, on the downside the number of kernel modules has reached epic proportions.
Is there any way of knowing which modules are truly necessary and which can be blacklisted?
Thanks
Offline
well, if the modules don't hurt i would say let it as they are, you have no bootdelay by loading them.

and you can get rid of more than half of the ones you listed there by fixing your initrd settings. Maybe you even have a new mkinitrd.conf as you had a new rc.conf that fixes it?
