Lenovo T440p screen turns black after wakup from suspend

Hi guys!

I bought a Lenovo T440p a month ago and installed arch for the first time ever and it works quite well, but I have some issues when returning from suspend.
Every other time when I open the lid, returning from supsend, the screen turns black with a column of randomly colored pixels.

I tried to switch to a console, but the screen (still on) kept being black with one column of pixels.
My graphics cards:

Re: Lenovo T440p screen turns black after wakup from suspend

I have a t440p without the nvidia card and this happens to me a lot, sometimes randomly. I think it might be an intel gfx issue.

Does this happen for you everytime you resume from suspend?

xi-berger, You said every other time.  Is it literally every other time?  If so, I suspect that two 'somethings' are being enumerated differently when coming out of suspend.
Can you change to a different console using Ctrl-Alt-F2  (or F3 through F6)?  If not, can you ssh into the box?

@jck & @awaller well not literally every other time, it occurs randomly. sometimes I can work for like an hour or as long as I want and nothing happens, sometimes after 5 minutes *boom* the screen goes black, except of one column with random pixels, i tried to switch to a different console with ctrl+alt+(F1-F6) but it did not work...

do you know where I have to look for errors? I also tried to reinstall the drivers, but it did not help..

I see something like this on my T420 Thinkpad sometimes. It turns out the backlight is just going out. I'm reluctant to say it's a kernel issue and not hardware - I have vague memories of it happening on Windows 7 as well, but that was years ago ...

It happens on Arch and Debian definitely, and the following fix works on both for me:

Opening a terminal (which I have bound to a key) and running "xset dpms force off", then moving the mouse or something to wake the display again brings it back to light.

Try that the next time it happens and see if it helps. Will at least confirm whether it's the same issue as me or not.

@xi-berger

If the backlight turned off, how would be seeing a single column of random pixels?

the backlight is not turned of, the screen is on, but all black. But since I updated the kernel I haven't had this issue any more.
thx guys for your time.

Re: Lenovo T440p screen turns black after wakup from suspend

sorry for double posting, but the problem is coming back...

again: when i put my laptop to sleep, open the lid back up, it works for some time - but then almost all pixels turn black (backlight still on), except some columns which are RGB colored.

@ndt when you change into a console, do you see the console, or are you working blind? when i try to switch into  another console the screen keeps looking funky like I described..

thx for your time in advance
