Trackpad no longer detected after update to 3.15.1-1

I updated the following:

[2014-06-18 17:47] [PACMAN] upgraded linux (3.14.6-1 -> 3.15.1-1)
[2014-06-18 17:47] [PACMAN] upgraded linux-headers (3.14.6-1 -> 3.15.1-1)
[2014-06-18 17:47] [PACMAN] upgraded pam (1.1.8-4 -> 1.1.8-5)

After reboot my trackpad stoped working (is not detected anymore).
I ran a live iso and there everythign is fine.

xinput list gives:

Re: Trackpad no longer detected after update to 3.15.1-1

chronos, please edit your post.
When posting configs, code or command output, please use [ code ] tags https://bbs.archlinux.org/help.php#bbcode

like this

It makes the code more readable and - in case of longer listings - more convenient to scroll through.

Re: Trackpad no longer detected after update to 3.15.1-1

Sorry, I'm not used to posting in Forums didn't know the syntax (thanks).
And I missed mentioning I'm using a Dell XPS 13 (developer edition but I guess only the price and (Original) OS makes the diference here)

Re: Trackpad no longer detected after update to 3.15.1-1

I just solved it.
Previously the Trackpad was detected twiche so one had to disable i2c-hid

cat /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
blacklist i2c-hid

I guess there has ben a Bug fix because there also were some hardcoding of configs in the driver before.
Now it's even better than before.

Sorry for any trouble i caused.
Would anybody mond telling how to makr this solved?

Cheeres

Re: Trackpad no longer detected after update to 3.15.1-1

Removing the i2c_hid driver from the blacklist.conf gets it working again, but not really. Synclient is no longer able to manage the device, since i2c_hid takes control and synaptic driver never loads. I don't think this is resolved.

Re: Trackpad no longer detected after update to 3.15.1-1

I am also having the same problem and I agree that this is not resolved. Prior to 3.15.1 blacklisting 12c-hid allowed my touchpad to be detected properly as a Synaptics. Removing the blacklist entry does restore very basic functionality to the touchpad, but it is still not being recognized properly.  This results in even basic gestures like scrolling being unavailable. I am also on an XPS 13 - 9333. My output from xinput list is identical to the OP with the blacklist entry in place, but when the blacklist entry is removed it looks like this:

⎡ Virtual core pointer id=2	[master pointer (3)]

Re: Trackpad no longer detected after update to 3.15.1-1

So, this may not be the exact fix, but found this awhile back and have been running this process, each and every time I update my kernel.

http://www.libraryofcoding.com/arch-lin … rch-linux/

Hope this helps you guys/gals.

Hope this helps you guys/gals.

Unfortunately that didn't work for me at all. My "workaround" is to downgrade to 3.14, blacklist the i2c_hid module, and block updates to 3.15..

Re: Trackpad no longer detected after update to 3.15.1-1

I have the same problem (and actually same laptop). But I preferred to install the LTS kernel  (currently 3.14.12-1) rather to downgrade the kernel. so I have both. You should think about this possibility while waiting for new kernel releases

Great idea, I didn't realize 3.14 was LTS

Re: Trackpad no longer detected after update to 3.15.1-1

hi craftyguy,

I have a second solution,
1) comment in the blacklist "i2c-hid"
2) add in your specific xorg.conf.d one for 50-synaptics.conf ( copy the one from /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-synaptics.conf to /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ )

and add:

        Option "VertEdgeScroll" "on"
        Option "VertTwoFingerScroll" "on"
        Option "HorizEdgeScroll" "on"
        Option "HorizTwoFingerScroll" "on"
        Option "CircularScrolling" "on"
        Option "CircScrollTrigger" "2"
        Option "EmulateTwoFingerMinZ" "0"

in the section

Identifier "touchpad catchall"

(after "Option "TapButton3" "3")

that's it.

Re: Trackpad no longer detected after update to 3.15.1-1

Hey cmdric,
Thanks for the workaround! Actually, an update to the 3.16 kernel and unblacklisting the hid driver seems to resolve the issue for me. Looks like Synaptics had quite a few changes in the 3.16 kernel, some of which appear to have resolved this issue!
