Yesterday during a regular pacman -Syu I was prompted to update syslinux.
Specific instruction was given to run a script with certain parameters, which I did and every thing seemed good at the end.
Today when I booted my system I was greeted by an ugly
blue box with 5 options:
Arch Linux (default)
Arch Linux Fallback
HV (something about hardware check)
Reboot
something else.
I know I only see this for a few seconds but ... is there anyway to go back to the "traditional" look we are all used? Or is this the
new "default look".
If there is a way to move away from the ugly box ... please do share how to do it. You'll have my eternal gratitude.
Really, really, really.

I think this is the traditional syslinux. Maybe the wiki tells you how to use a different theme / UI.

You can take a look at the archiso config for syslinux. That should give you an idea of how to modify the look of the menu.

@karol,
Yes. I think that is the way it looks now. Ugly ![]()
@WonderWoofy,
Actually that's a very good idea. May be I can copy the configs from Arch.
I wonder if upgrades (like the one I did the other day) will kill it again. After all I had the original Arch configs.
I do not gonna cry like a baby over this. If it's doable and will not become a chore over time fine.
Otherwise, well... I only look at it for 2 secs. ... so be it.
Thanks guys.

/boot/syslinux/syslinux.cfg is included in the backup array. So the original is checksummed and upon update, if the checksum doesn't match, it will create a pacnew file instead. Most of the configs are set up this way.

It does. https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Sy … _boot_menu
If you follow the directions and copy the syslinux.cfg from the wiki, make sure you change the "root=/dev/sda2" to point to your root partition.

@2ManyDogs,
Yes. I've now seen the documentation and I will give it a try.
As long as I do not have to re-do the whole enchilada every time there is an upgrade (which I strongly think will be the case) I'm cool with that.
Otherwise I'll let it go. ![]()
Thanks for your input. Very kind of you to provide the link too.
