Request: Update on X.org 7

From looking at the Testing repository, I understand that many upgrades are now on hold since they all depend on the new X.org release. Foremost among those (at least as far as I am concerned) is KDE 3.5.1.
Can somebody please give me an update on the status of X.org? Is it going to move to Current any time soon? If not, I'd probably need to build KDE 3.5.1 myself, as there are some annoying bugs in 3.5.0.

Thanks,
Elad

I think it's just a method to push more people to use testing  big_smile

You have other choice - just enable the testing repo ;-) It isn't that scary, really.

Yup, I'd rather enable testing repo than building kde on my own  roll

But then again... if it is that stable, why isn't it in current?  big_smile

Re: Request: Update on X.org 7

Well, you have lack of support of a lot of features for the graphical drivers, as well as issues with some packages looking for stuff in the wrong paths and stuff like that. It won't move into current before this is resolved, and people can upgrade to xorg7 without having to go through hell. (end-user perspective)

Atleast, that's what I bet.

Although the most often used packages already are fixed to play nicely with new X.org and it's changed paths, who knows what suprises users could find in other.

X.org in testing is pretty much stable now. At first it was a little hunt-the-missing-path hell, but now everything is stable. The best thing to do if you can't wait, is upgrade to testing. But be prepared for some tweaking.

X.Org 7.0 modular will be moved to current very soonish, so no worries.  wink
