Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

For testing purposes I even removed the xf86-video-ati and ati-dri packages.

I still have that weird
[     8.428175] [drm:radeon_init] *ERROR* No UMS support in radeon module!
at boot!

Where the hell would that come from if I removed the driver????

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

Excuse my verbosity but this is getting weird.

I reinstalled the driver.
I can manage to load the driver and boot into X from the command line with

modprobe radeon modeset=1

I am now trying to get this to work at boot
which is still failing for some reason.

This is so weird, there is no trace of this parameter in the wiki,
but I found it elsewhere on the web.

And it's weird that I can get into X after booting,
logging in via the command line and entering the above modprobe.

But from boot it's not working....

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

FINALLY!!!!!

I am so sorry for cluttering this long thread, but maybe this could be of help to someone else.

I finally created a
/etc/modprobe.d/radeon.conf

which has an entry

options radeon modeset=1

with this I am now back into my familiar X !!!!!
also no more
[     8.428175] [drm:radeon_init] *ERROR* No UMS support in radeon module!
messages at boot.

If someone wants to shed light of what has happened and why that parameter is needed, would be welcomed,
but it's weird that there is no such mention in the wiki, so I wonder what's going on.

Anyway, happy to have my X back!

AAAANDDDD...the original problem, which triggered this whole mess (slow scrolling in 2D) is GONE thanks to the open source driver.
Now I am happy smile

They seem to be coming from fglrx, but this wasn't happening a few months ago but obviously i've got no idea what's changed

Failing a fix, has anyone got a working suppressions file? I've tried but with no success (incompetence rather than anything else) it's really impossible to use valgrind like this hmm

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

14.6 gives me some weird issues:

I primarily use a Dell U2711 connected to the DisplayPort of my 7750. Also there's a TV connected to HDMI, which usually is turned off/ should get not signal from my PC.
I have created  a scripts for turning the signal for my TV on or off and adjusting the picture (underscan-issues -_-). You can find the script here.

It used to work like a charm, but since the upgrade to 14.6 there are issues: After using the script the signal to TV is turned on, monitor is turned off, but I get a frozen desktop screen. I can unfreeze it via another script that just executes 'xrandr --output DFP1 --auto'. Also, the picture adjustment (the ati-config-stuff called in the tv-switch script) has no effect, I have to execute those commands again.
If I execute all those commands by hand in the same way the script does it, nothing weird happens! What's going on here? And just to make it even more annoying: After executing the script and shutting off the signal to the TV I get glitches reaching from flickering picture to completely distoreted screen. For some time this goes away if I hit ctrl+alt+del and some KDE-logout-screen is showing, but shortly after that the picture is all glitchy again.

Any ideas what's going on here? The last thing might indicate some connection to KDE, but all the rest doesn't.

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

Is anyone using Chromium with fglrx?  I get %100 CPU usage with the latest version....when running htop I see this process is the culprit:

/usr/lib/chromium/chromium --type=gpu-process --channel=951.0.478451731 --supports-dual-gpus=false --gpu-driver-bug-workarounds=1,13,20 --disable-accelerated-video-decode --gpu-vendor-id=0x1002 --gpu-device-id=0x67b0 --gpu-driver-vendor=ATI / AMD --gpu-driver-version=14.20

Really annoying...

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

New info:
- if I comment out the aticonfig-lines everything works just fine, but I have underscan / annoying black border
- if I leave them in, use the script to switch between TV and monitor twice and get those glitches/artifacts, not even restarting X fixes the problem - I have to do a reboot (or someone tell me another way I could try)
- if I do all the steps in the script manually (with the aticonfig-lines) there are sporadic glitches, but very short ones and nearly unnoticable, and only on the TV

I hope there is some fix. Or should I report this somewhere? Where?
Alternatively I'd like to know another way of getting rid of those underscan borders. Any ideas (exept via image transformation with xrandr, bad image quality with that)?

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

After updating to the latest catalyst my second monitor, which is a TV connected via DVI > HDMI cable is seen as an HDMI connected TV, causing the image to be fuzzy.  Previously it was seen as a DVI display.  Is there anyway to fix this?

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

After updating catalyst, apps such as Lxdm, qbittorent, and google chrome now seem to be crashing. my lxdm log had this in it.
http://sprunge.us/NPMg

Chrome gives me this: http://sprunge.us/XNgY

My xorg logfile had no errors. oddly, cinnamon starts up fine. Only certain apps segfault.

Edit: turns out my issue was actually with Libxcursor. downgraded that and life is all good.

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

It's seem I have a same problem like dRaiser. My screen is hang after running "startx" command. In my case, I used "catalyst-test-pxp" package. I installed xorg-server, intel-dri, xf86-video-intel, and glamor-egl from Arch Linux official repo, and removed ati-dri, libgl, xf86-video-ati.
My kernel version is 3.14.5

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

I have solved the problem. Just downgrade the xf86-video-intel package to 2.99.910-1 version. It works great in both catalyst-total-pxp and catalyst-test-pxp. Thanks Vi0L0 for supporting the package.

Thanks, sokomo! So I've downgraded not low enough. It's definitely working now!

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

I would like to ask whether problems with GDM 3.12 are still present with Catalyst 14.6 Beta. Thank you.

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

For some of the problems here, please be aware of bug in the latest version of libva.

Alternatively I'd like to know another way of getting rid of those underscan borders. Any ideas (exept via image transformation with xrandr, bad image quality with that)?

I had another look into the wiki, and "Not using full screen resolution at 1920x1080 (underscanning, black borders around the screen)" was exactly my problem. Last time I looked there (some month ago) it was not there, so my bad.

Still, the problem I had might be a bug.

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

Hello.
I face very annoying problem, which leads to X crash. I have Dell Inspiron 7520 laptop with Radeon HD 7730M and Arch Linux x86_64 with the latest catalyst pxp 14.6, linux-ck 3.14.8, Xorg 1.14.5  and all other packages are up to date  (actualy, for the first time I've faced this issue long time ago and still able to reproduce it through different versions of kernel, X and catalyst).

So, my steps to reproduce:

1. open Firefox (by some reason this cannot be reproduced in chrome/chromium)
2. go to https://www.google.com.ua/search?q=arch … S:official  or any other google link with youtube in search results
3. try to drag and drop any youtube preview image on this page

Expected xorg crash with segfault.

Well, it's not hardly linked to youtube preview image, X server could crash in other cases when some "heavy" image with link is dragged in FF, but I haven't discovered any dependency between html tag and segfault.

Could anybody reproduce this? Is it a known issue?  If so, is there a workaround (except not dragging such kind of content in FF, because it could be done by accident) ?

Слава Україні!

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

That's strange, I tried to reproduce it and used Firefox but I can happily drag around all preview images and nothing happens.

For reference: I'm using the latest catalyst beta, too on a Radeon HD 7950.

Just a quick thought: did you force enable webgl or anything like that in Firefox?

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

I wanted to know what the major diferences between Glamor and EXA are. I was using EXA with the radeon drivers but there was massive tearing when whatching videos with mpv, so I switched to Glamor. Now this fixed the tearing but brought a new problem with the composite manager + Steam (which I don't think is relevant for this thread). So I would like to go back to EXA, but does anyone know how to reduce tearing? Or if there are some performance or features that I would be missing from using one or the other?

This is my 20-radeon.conf:

Old (using EXA):

Section "Device"
	Identifier "Radeon 6670"
	Driver "radeon"
	Option "SWcursor" "off"
        Option "EnablePageFlip" "on"
        Option "AccelMethod" "EXA"
        Option "RenderAccel" "on"
        Option "ColorTiling" "on"
        Option "EXAVSync" "off"
        Option "EXAPixmaps" "on"
        Option "AccelDFS" "on"
EndSection

New (using glamor):

Section "Module"
	Load "dri2"
	Load "glamoregl"
Endsection

Section "Device"
	Identifier "Radeon 6670"
	Driver "radeon"
	Option "SWcursor" "off"
        Option "EnablePageFlip" "on"
        Option "AccelMethod" "glamor"
        Option "RenderAccel" "on"
        Option "ColorTiling" "on"
        Option "AccelDFS" "on"

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

check 'man radeon' for EXAVSync and try running with it set to "on" .

Edit :

oops, man radeon is the manpage for the open driver, not sure what it's called for the proprietary driver.

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/AM … _Rendering might help.

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.
