Hey,

I'm from Hungary,21yo.

Just installed Arch after a few weeks use of Manjaro. So I'm kind of an advanced newbie,lol. I was in love with Manjaro but Arch was always on my mind and yesterday I had a feeling like "okay,give me my pain...I want Arch. Now"
It was not difficult (thank God for this ArchWiki),everything working fine so I'm delighted.

(That security question on the registration page made me mad )

Hello everyone, I'm living in HongKong. I use Linux now for about 15 years and have recently started using Arch Linux. Still need to find out lots of stuff but I'm sure that won't be a problem with so many good documentation in the wiki and the forums. Helloooooo Arch Linux!

Relatively new to Linux in general (though not to Unix-like CLI), and stumbling my way through my first Arch install now. I'm forcing myself to learn for work purposes (enterprise storage technical support).

I'm happy to see there's such great community support! ...and also that so many others have already asked the questions I've had so far, and gotten great answers.

I was watching Bryan Lunduke's "Why Linux Sucks" 2013 video on youtube, and he mentioned Arch when talking about the rise and fall of various distros (14:12~15:20).

Look at Arch. It gains a 1 percentage point every year. [...] Which means, by the year 3000, nobody will be running anything but Arch.

So I had to try it out, first in a Xen VM, then as my main distro. Never looked back.

I look forward to being a helpful member of the community - feeding trolls, asking homework questions, advertising my new startup, talking about religion, politics, sport and debating which is the best text editor.

I've been using Linux since 1999, and working as a Linux Sysadmin off and on since 2002.

Hello everyone, I came to archlinux after watching mum tries archlinux on youtube, from my ubuntu distro, after several failed install attempts on both laptop and virtual box, I decided to get rid of my old win 7 disk and replace it with archlinux.
I like to program and am currently developing a peice of software for GTK3 that suports mouse button assignments for the Logitech G600 mouse users.
Seems like this is a friendly community and I had to post since one of the goals was to make this the longest thread in history.

Hi, archers.
I'm a 26 year old guy in Sweden, and my forum name is a lame pun (search WIkipedia for it...).
I started using Linux back when Hardy Heron was the latest Ubuntu release, and I've mostly used Debian-based distros since. A few days ago, however, I installed Arch on a whim, and I'm very pleased with it so far. I've always been interested in computers, but as a linguist I'm not really a "techie" per se. I hope to get to study for a Master's Degree in Language Technology this autumn, though. That way I can combine two of my biggest interests :-)

Well, that's it for now, I guess. Don't think I'm going to be a very active poster, but I thought I'd at least register and say hi...

I see! Yes, "(Unix) Shell Man" is a perfect nickname for someone who uses Arch Linux.

Or, as I like to put it when I use other people's computers: "Your computer has too much computer in it and not enough typewriter!"

Hello, I installed Arch on my pogoplug last year and thought I'd give it a go on my desktop. I'm a Gentoo user of a little over 10 years. I am impressed so far as some of the differences seem like improvements. I was wondering if anyone could make some suggestions for someone coming from a source based distro. I've already gone through the AUR wiki entry and it seems simple enough.

using arch on an i3 haswell with an i7-950 on the back end. running the usual suspects... pacman looking like portage is nostalgic with the color option. i even bought an LED fan. wehew!

Welcome to a fellow convert from the penultimate distribution. I still love Gentoo, and have it on two machines. Anyone who has dealt with ebuilds and use flags will have no problem with the AUR system. The only thing you have to learn is to deal with the generally accepted configuration. No more overnight compiles to find out that your combination of use flags doesn't work. I still often use custom kernels and always refer back to the Gentoo handbook when I build a kernel for Arch.

Welcome jakeycool.

Just so you know, Arch Linux isn't available for the ARM platform. There is a fork called Arch Linux ARM: http://archlinuxarm.org/, which does work on ARM devices. You should look into that for installing on your Raspberry Pi.

Hello everyone. I'm glad to say that I finally made it into the Arch camp finally after fixing some weird issues I was having on my laptop that basically made linux distros unusable on my system. Nonetheless the problem is fixed and I'm having a good time on my system. So far Arch has been an awesome distro to use and it's super lightweight. Hopefully I can continue to further my knowledge with it as it's been a wonderful and painful learning experience. Hope to get well acquianted with community and have a good time here.

Wasn't UEFI/SecureBoot by chance was it?
