Duplicate Drives in Gnome

OK I don't know what I did, but I was trying to get usb drive to automount.. which is working now, added the hal and dbus to rc.conf.. anyways now I have multiple entries for my CD and DVD drives in nautilus.. and when it automounts it sticks two entries on the desktop.. what could be causing this?

here is a picture of the Computer in File Browser with nothing mounted

and with a DVD mounted

Thanks

Matt

Re: Duplicate Drives in Gnome

cool that worked, thanks.. one question though

I have a USB SD card reader that me and my wife use to get pictures off our digital camera.. mounts as /dev/sdb1

On ubuntu I put an entry in fstab for the device so that the permissions would be 775 instead of 700 but if I do that in Arch it gives me the duplicate drives in my computer the same way the CD drives were..

Is there another way of setting the default permissions for this device?

Thanks

Matt

Re: Duplicate Drives in Gnome

That doesn't need a udev rule roll the problem is not drive name is changing, the problem is that nautilus (and dvd mounter applet) are getting drives from both, fstab and hal/dbus which makes them Two different names but only one hardware entrie

I don't get it how udev would change that...

right i don't think udev would change the duplicity, however removing the items from my cd/dvd/usb fstab entries did fix the duplicity.. I do believe that these udev rules will help me with my usb-disk permission problem though..

thank you Moo-Crumpus for the links, very helpful..

I don't believe ubuntu used udev.. if i am correct in my thinking, udev is alternate to hotplug?  so this is all new to me..

again thanks for all the help

Matt

He mentioned changing the fstab had fixed that already, and he had a final question about permissions.  wink
Afaik, ubuntu uses udev - but in an very outdated version.
