Hi,
my fresh installed 0.7.1 doesnt boot if the option hwd yes is enable in rc.conf.
i have tried blacklist (pcmcia apci) but freez every time on LOADING MODULES.
If the option is no, it will boot fine.
Has someone any idea?
PS: Is a Acer Aspire 1690 (Laptop)
PPS: With 0.7.0 works Fine

First of all, you're confusing hwd with hwdetect. You're really talking about hwdetect.
Anyway, you're going to have to boot without using it, then run "hwdetect --show-modules" and modprobe them one by one until you find the problem one.

so pcmcia and apci are causing the hangup with hwdetect and adding them to the blacklist didn't work?
You can try using hwd instead of hwdetect. Install lshwd, change MOD_AUTOLOAD to no, and add hwd to the DAEMONS() array in /etc/rc.conf.

What about adding "acpi=off" to the kernel line in /etc/grub/menu.lst?

I've just solved the same problem on an old vaio laptop. Modprobing one by one is definitely the way to do this. The issue was with snd-nm256...
