I know necrobumping is not allowed because things may change and the last post is from more than 2 years ago, but i'm having the issue and madvise still seems to solve it, so probably this topic is still actual...
Does anybody have information about how upstream are working on the issue?

I hear you about bumping this thread. The best thing I have found so far is udiskie
The way it mounts seems to work just fine. I have tried anything and was grateful when this came out.
This has been a problem for a long time.

How exactly does it mount? Can you post the default permissions or something like this?

/dev/sdd1 on /media/USBSTICK type vfat (rw,nosuid,nodev,relatime,uid=1000,gid=100,fmask=0022,dmask=0077,codepage=437,iocharset=iso8859-1,shortname=mixed,showexec,utf8,errors=remount-ro,uhelper=udisks)

Right. I would have to check out more. Let me know if you want me to run any commands.

Sorry for the necro, but when I set Google to look at the past year, I can't find anyone talking about this at all.
My system being choppy during USB transfers has never NOT been a problem in my almost 10 years using Linux. I'm fucking sick of it. I wanna be able to watch a video, type something, and transfer a file at the same time.
But I'm afraid to try this fix because it's from so long ago, meaning possible dangerous side effects, and people in this thread were saying things like "until it is fixed upstream", which *must* have happened by now? Is this fix still the right thing to do? Does it still cause no weird side effects as long as you don't *completely* disable huge page transparency? If so, how is it *still* not the default in any distro (or at least Arch, the distro I've been on for the past 4 years or so)?
