GeForce GT 750M

Hello!

I have a laptop with a Nvidia GeForce GT 750M and another integrated Intel video card. I want to use only the Nvidia one. I'm trying to follow the wiki but I'm not sure about the driver I have to install for this model. Can you please help me?

Re: GeForce GT 750M

Do you have an option in BIOS/UEFI to turn off the Integrated Graphics?

Also, for the 750M, you should be fine with the default nvidia driver for the nvidia card.

Claire is fine.

No, I do not have the switcher in the BIOS. The default driver is this one?

I'm not able to find the code name of my model, on the Nvidia site.

Re: GeForce GT 750M

Go to the driver download page http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverRe … 6884/en-us or find '750m' on http://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/CodeNames/ -it says it's NVE7 (GK107) and the wiki says

For GeForce 8000 series (released 2006) and newer [NV50, NV84 and newer] cards, install the nvidia or nvidia-lts packages, available in the official repositories.

Yes, 'nvidia' package is the right one for you, it's the default nvidia driver.

Re: GeForce GT 750M

If you don't want to use the intel card at all, remove the intel drivers first, then install nvidia.

Re: GeForce GT 750M

Try switching to another terminal with Alt-F2 or Alt-F7.
What exactly did you do? Did you successfully install nvidia?
Are you booting to tty or straight to X?

Re: GeForce GT 750M

I removed all the packages in conflict with nvidia then I successfully installed the nvidia one. I rebooted the system.

I can access another tty console.

What happens if you run 'startx' from the other console? Any errors?

Have you installed the X server?

Unlike some other Linux distributions which will make sure you have the X server installed with the graphics drivers if you want to run an environment like GNOME3, in ArchLinux you can have the X server installed with out graphics drivers (and vice versa), resulting in no graphics (unless you're using Wayland).

Re: GeForce GT 750M

I removed the Nvidia driver and installed the Intel one back. On the Nvidia drivers startx say it does not found any screen. Why I do not see the Nvidia card under the VGA voice in the lspci?

[root@arch egidio]# lspci | grep -i vga
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 4th Gen Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 06)
[root@arch egidio]# lspci | grep -i nvidia
01:00.0 3D controller: NVIDIA Corporation GK107M [GeForce GT 750M] (rev a1)

So, what can I do to use the Nvidia card? I have to setup xorg manually instead of using GDM?

Re: GeForce GT 750M

You have to install xorg-server and some other packages first.

xorg-server was installed. I installed xorg-xinit to give the startx command but it said it did not find any screen.

Re: GeForce GT 750M

Since you don't have an on/off option for the Integrated Graphics card and you said you only want to use the nvidia card, this page looks relevant: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NV … ing_nvidia

Re: GeForce GT 750M

I have no idea then. I'm going to pass this on, in the hope that someone with experience with an nVidia card will help.
