hangs after installation and reboot

i installed arch linux like i've always done, and after i followed the beginners guide to install it and rebooted the pc, grub loads up and when i click arch linux it loads for a second then hangs and has green lines down the screen, i don't understand it. i've installed arch linux countless times before and even one time before this on the same computer and it worked before so i don't understand it. i don't have the video driver installed yet or a desktop manager so it shouldn't be trying to boot into a gui, it should be booting to the prompt but it doesn't. any help would be great! thanks!

Re: hangs after installation and reboot

What is the last loading you see in the Kernel. I have been trying to do a fresh install on my laptop recently (past month) and have had nothing but hangs. However, I am not getting green lines.

Re: hangs after installation and reboot

yea, it's on my laptop but i've had arch linux on it before which is weird that it's all of a sudden doing this. it doesn't get far, after i click on arch linux in the grub menu, it comes up saying that "/dev/sda1 clean", it flashes the green lines then it acts like it's loading something then hangs and the green lines stay on the screen. i can't even hit ctrl+alt+F1 or any of the F buttons to get to a prompt, the only thing it does is turn off. i'm usually pretty good at fixing issues but this one, i'm just at a loss.

Re: hangs after installation and reboot

i used the nosmp boot option and it said that the command wasn't recognized and i used the maxcpus=1 option and it started up but did the same thing. i also read on the last link that you sent that it might be a kernel panic, something to do with the latest kernel and to downgrade but i can't do that because this is a new installation. is their a way to delete this kernel and install an older one just to see if that works?

Re: hangs after installation and reboot

1. You can install linux-lts together with main kernel.
2. May be you set boot options in wrong manner (I suppose because of my not correct terms)? See https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/kernel_parameters
