[SOLVED]Dwarf Fortress x86_64 - Main index file missing/corrupted

After updating Dwarf Fortress from .34 to .40, which also moved the working directory from /opt/df_linux to /opt/dwarffortress, has left me unable to run the game unless run as superuser, or otherwise I get the old

Main index file missing/corrupted. The file "index" must be in the "data" folder. Make sure DF decompressed into its folders properly.

Reinstalling doesn't fix it, nor does the old suggested advice of changing folder permissions for /opt/dwarffortress. The only way I can get the game to run is with sudo or from a terminal window logged in as root, which is a horrible idea.

What about adding your user to the games group? https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Dw … stallation

My user is in the 'games' group, but I still get the error message, and I have since logged out and logged back in.

I fixed the issue; apparently something was wrong with ~/.dwarfortress, so I removed the directory and reinstalled Dorf Fort, and now it's working.
