Asus Z97 Pro Wifi Go[SOLVED]

Hello,

As a motherboard I decided to purchase the Asus Z97 Pro Wifi. Unfortunately the wifi isn't recognized, only the ethernet connection.

I've made several searches and didn't find any drivers.

So is there a solution ?

You say you've made several searches - what did you search, where? What did you learn?

Did you check the wiki? If so, post the output of the diagnostic commands provided there.

A quick google search for that MoBo led me to a review that indicated the wireless card used an Atheros chipset. The link from our wiki's wireless page indicates there is only one Atheros chipset used by Asus, and that it can use the madwifi driver. If you follow the wireless wiki, it will provide commands that will allow you to gather better information than I can without actually knowing anything about the hardware you are using.

I checked the wiki, and didn't find anything.

When performing a ip link show it returns me:

The "WiFi Go" seems to be a software bundle - 'cloud' type nonsense. That is not the wireless hardware.

Ip link would not be expected to show anything. Start from the top of the wiki page. It says to check the driver status with the following commands:

lspci -k
lsusb -v

I also like:

lspci -vnn | grep -i net

These will tell us what your actual wireless hardware is.

*If* it is actually Atheros - and *if* it is the atheros chip the review lead me to believe, that could explain the problem. Madwifi is no longer included in the default kernel. It has been replaced by ath9k/ath5k. If these modules will not work with your chip (as the linked page indicates) then you'd have to separately insall and load madwifi. This is, however, based on some big 'if's. Following that page from top to bottom, and following any links it sends you to in the process will eliminate the 'if's and we can actually know what hardware you have.

So the output of lspci -vnn | grep -i net was:

05:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Broadcom Corporation BCM4352 802.11ac Wireless Network Adapter [14e4:43b1] (rev 03)

And according to this page, there are no suitable drivers.

Well ... at least we know what the actual hardware is now, not an atheros at all. I just did some checking and found the same results, that this specific card is not supported at all in linux it would seem. That was a surprise: while broadcoms can be finnicky, there is usually some driver to support them.

I did find a SO post saying that it worked fine with ndiswrapper. I've never had to use this myself, but it is also covered here in the wiki.

EDIT: This site suggests it might work with the newest wl driver. That may be worth trying before ndiswrapper.

Had to go down the same path, having identical WiFi.

DKMS driver does not work, it seems to be three months old and with it, WiFi is still unlised in

ip link

, Though installing non-dkms version worked!! (needed reboot).

P.S. It is a pain to set-up wireless drivers through AUR without having internet connection
