[solved] Annoying buzzing sound when sound card is active

When I play a track (with cmus for example), a buzzing sound coming from the motherboard starts. If I move the mouse (wired) around, the sound fades away, but it comes back when the mouse is stopped.

Modifying sound levels doesn't affect it, nor muting. I've tried unplugging even the speakers, and the buzz is still there. It happens as soon as the sound card is initialized.

It's an integrated intel-hda.

Should I buy a decent stand alone card?

Since this probably comes from the internal speaker, try blacklisting pc speaker module:

$ cat /etc/modprobe/50-nobeep.conf:
blacklist pcspkr

Also take a look here (provide more information about your hardware, like in the thread) and here. Other than that, you can play sounds and hear them through speakers?

In the end I'll buy another card since this integrated one is very bad.

And this integrated one is ... (lspci -nn | grep -i audio)? Others might find this information useful.
What will be the purpose of the sound card? Do you want to produce/edit audio/video, do you want an audiophile experience or simply playback mp3s and dvds? If the last one is the case, your current hardware might be sufficient. What if you buy a new card and you will still need to configure it properly? But it is your decision in the end.

Re: [solved] Annoying buzzing sound when sound card is active

Guys, I fixed it, it was a Bios problem, deactivating C1E support fixed it.

I read about it here: http://forum.corsair.com/forums/showthread.php?t=85166

Hope this is useful for more users.

I hope that also, which is why it would be wise to name your sound hardware (vid and pid):

lspci -nn | grep -i audio

Certain sound cards might not be effected and those that do, should be well known to everybody.

Also, is it CORSAIR PSUs in general or only a few series (skimming through the thread you linked HX and AX were mentioned)?

Glad you solved it.
