Instead of installing them all, install only the ones you want.
Do you see that 'Enter a selection' prompt? Type the numbers corresponding to the packages you want to install.

Yes I can do that, but as I was trying to automate my whole installation, I just wanted to install them all. Thanks.

Re: infinality-bundle: good looking fonts made (even) easier

You can do e.g.

pacman -S otf-cantoraone-ib ttf-merriweather-ib

just like with any other packages.

Re: infinality-bundle: good looking fonts made (even) easier

@bohoomil hello. I'm the maintainer of the ttf-ms-win8 AUR package. Recently I'd installed your freetype, fontconfig and cairo packages (was running vanilla infinality packages). Thanks for maintaining them! For the first time I was shocked by Consolas as default monospace, but I raised font size and it seems okay.

And Arial is ugly and sharp (http://imgur.com/28afTZX), can you suggest something to make it more aliased?
Do you have any questions or requests for ttf-ms-win8? I will be glad to collaborate.

P. S. Do you know if infinality is okay? He doesn't seem to respond on his forum.

This cannot be done: please, consult the Wiki for details.

Also, as per the new infinality-bundle documentation,

Font packages that belong to `infinality-bundle-fonts-extra` group provide a rich and diverse collection of typefaces suitable for both the traditional and electronic typography. These packages are not supposed to be installed in one shot: a lot of families here are available in multiple formats (OTF, TTF, T1), each requiring their own settings in order to render correctly, and therefore should not be used together. Use anything you need --- as you need it.

@reflexing You may want to check out other rendering styles than the default one: set `USE_STYLE=` to values 2-4 in infinality-settings.sh.

Unfortunately, I have no idea why the original author of the Infinality project is not responding. I am merely one of those who has been waiting for a piece of news from his corner of the Web. wink

Play with the settings to suit yourself, e.g. I currently use:

# Makes fonts darker and thicker
export INFINALITY_FT_BRIGHTNESS="-10"

# Not too sharp, not too smooth
export INFINALITY_FT_FILTER_PARAMS="16 20 28 20 16"

Maybe we should add the flexibility to be able to override these per font smile

This is an excellent piece of news, Hspasta, thank you very much. I will update the packages later today.

Just a quick question. When you make these changes in /etc/profile.d/infinality-settings.sh, how do you preserve them on an update?

@bohoomil, thanks for the update! By chance I noticed in the changelog that ttf-faruma-ib is supposed to be a dep of the ibfonts-meta-extended package now, but it looks like you forgot to add it.

Re: infinality-bundle: good looking fonts made (even) easier

@bohoomil

Thanks for your reply and sorry mine is even more delayed!

I see no one else has commented on the proposed change to Liberation Sans as the default. Oviously I wouldn't mind as I'm using it now locally anyway but I would say that in my original post when I said "For me (and I think many people) just changing the default from Noto Sans to Liberation Sans is a better fix" I should have said many Emacs users. If Noto Sans has better screen optimization than Liberation Sans then I'm totally fine with it remaining as the default and am happy with my local fix.

I updated the wiki. I may have gone overboard and it made it too long as it's now saying that section is a candidate for merging with the main Emacs article! I think it's better off where it is so please feel free to edit it to make it shorter/simpler if you prefer.

I tried Droid Sans and interestingly it does work as the default. This is the debug output:

Not sure if that gives any further clues as to why it can find the right font with Droid Sans and not with Noto Sans? If you feel the issue is likely with Emacs I'm happy to report it and at least let them know. I'm happy with my local fix anyway though.

Thanks!

When posting configs, code or command output, please use [ code ] tags, not [  quote ] tags https://bbs.archlinux.org/help.php#bbcode

like this

It makes the code more readable and - in case of longer listings - more convenient to scroll through.

Re: infinality-bundle: good looking fonts made (even) easier

@conorbev I think I have good news: I managed to fix the issue with Noto Sans and now the font works correctly with Emacs. Just do the following:

1. go here
2. download both 'fixed' font files
3. place them in `/usr/share/fonts/ttf-noto-sans-multilang-ib`
4. run `fc-cache -f`
5. set Noto Sans in your ~/.emacs
6. sit back and enjoy. smile

I will update the multilang package as soon as possible and inform Noto developers about the bug.

Happy using and thanks for cooperation!
