Laptop ATI+Intel w/ dock and external monitor? (Acer TMP645)

I think I might want to buy an Acer TMP645 but I am really hesitant to buy something with two GPUs given, well, Linux. And I want to dock and use an external monitor. This works flawlessly with my Intel IGP only Lenovo T420.

I was unable to find any information whether a) latest kernels support switching off the dGPU b) once you switch off the dGPU can you still use the secondary monitor or the ports are hardwired to the dGPU? The wiki (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/hybrid_graphics and https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/PRIME) gives me the impression that this not the case but what do I know. I don't need a dGPU. I really, really don't but Acer doesn't seem to sell a full HD iGPU only model.
