Bumblebee: failed to get session: PID 695 does not belong... [~SOLVED]

Hello,

I followed this guide to get my "NVIDIA Corporation GF108M [GeForce GT 630M] (rev a1)" running via Nouveau:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Bumblebee

But when I do a "primusrun glxgears" or "optirun glxgears", I am getting:

[ERROR]Cannot access secondary GPU - error: [XORG] (EE) systemd-logind: failed to get session: PID 695 does not belong to any known session

Restarting didn't solved. Using bumblebee 3.2.1-3.

I once got this card working via Nvidia driver, but then it stopped working, tried to solve but failed.
This time I would like to use the open driver.
Tried to disable my external monitor to check for a double monitor issue, but got same error.

And this is my /var/log/Xorg.0.log (is this the log that I should post?):

Thanks! That looks really similar to the error I recently got. Have you, by chance, edited the /etc/bumblebee/xorg.conf.{nvidia,nouveau} files for an external monitor? If you have, try the following configurations instead:

For the nvidia driver (xorg.conf.nvidia):

Section "ServerLayout"
    Identifier "Layout0"
    Option "AutoAddDevices" "false"
    Option "AutoAddGPU" "false"
EndSection

Section "Device"
    Identifier "DiscreteNvidia"
    Driver "nvidia"
    VendorName "NVIDIA Corporation"

# If the X server does not automatically detect your VGA device,
# you can manually set it here.
# To get the BusID prop, run `lspci | egrep 'VGA|3D'` and input the data
# as you see in the commented example.
# This Setting may be needed in some platforms with more than one
# nvidia card, which may confuse the proprietary driver (e.g.,
# trying to take ownership of the wrong device). Also needed on Ubuntu 13.04.
# BusID "PCI:01:00:0"

# Setting ProbeAllGpus to false prevents the new proprietary driver
# instance spawned to try to control the integrated graphics card,
# which is already being managed outside bumblebee.
# This option doesn't hurt and it is required on platforms running
# more than one nvidia graphics card with the proprietary driver.
# (E.g. Macbook Pro pre-2010 with nVidia 9400M + 9600M GT).
# If this option is not set, the new Xorg may blacken the screen and
# render it unusable (unless you have some way to run killall Xorg).
    Option "ProbeAllGpus" "false"

    Option "NoLogo" "true"
# Option "UseEDID" "false"
# Option "UseDisplayDevice" "none"
EndSection

For the nouveau driver (xorg.conf.nouveau):

Section "ServerLayout"
    Identifier "Layout0"
    Option "AutoAddDevices" "false"
    Option "AutoAddGPU" "false"
EndSection

Section "Device"
    Identifier "DiscreteNvidia"
    Driver "nouveau"

# If the X server does not automatically detect your VGA device,
# you can manually set it here.
# To get the BusID prop, run `lspci | egrep 'VGA|3D'` and input the data
# as you see in the commented example.
# This Setting is needed on Ubuntu 13.04.
# BusID "PCI:01:00:0"

EndSection

Re: Bumblebee: failed to get session: PID 695 does not belong... [~SOLVED]

No, I didn't... My "nouveau" file is same as you posted.
But do use 2 monitors.

Edit: I restarted using only one monitor, but the problem persisted. =/

Edit2: Found a workaround here: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=964012

In my experience, bumblebee hasn't worked with nouveau since PRIME was in the kernel, around kernel 3.5 or 3.6. I don't think there's any way around that. Kernel 3.12 has added in-kernel power management, replacing bbswitch (it's pretty rough still, but works) and instead of optirun you'd run 'DRI_PRIME=1 program' after running xrandr --setprovideroffloadsink nouveau Intel and a compositor (xcompmgr would do).

It works for me. I am just not sure if the power saving works too...

Hmm, maybe you could try the proprietary driver again? (Though it doesn't work as well as it used to...)

If I don't have any monitor connected, I have to uncomment in xorg.conf.nvidia:

    Option "UseEDID" "false"
    Option "UseDisplayDevice" "none"

If I connect a second monitor, I have to comment those out again. When I forget to do that, I get the same "Failed to get session: PID ..." error message.

Re: Bumblebee: failed to get session: PID 695 does not belong... [~SOLVED]

Thanks for the help, chenxiaolong, but I would rather not install the proprietary driver... The configuration of these drivers is far from predictable, so I am afraid of not being able to fallback to nouveau after installing the proprietary one.

Anyway, doing a cat /proc/acpi/bbswitch I can see that this workaround is turning of the GPU after use.
So I just did a function to use it:

function use_gpu { xrandr --setprovideroffloadsink nouveau Intel; xcompmgr -c &; DRI_PRIME=1 $@; killall xcompmgr; }

Test with: use_gpu glxgears -info

I will consider this thread as "~solved".
