So after my upgrade to xorg-server 1.16, my startx command required me to be on my default X tty (tty10) to startx. First I chmoded /usr/bin/Xorg.wrap u+s and g+s.
I tried Xorg.wrap, however, when I do an Xorg.wrap :1 from an x terminal, it works fine, but from the console, it takes me to a black tty with a cursor, and the system freezes
How do I:
1) Get the Xwrapper.config to work
2) Get startx to use the Xorg.wrap
3) Fix the freeze

Please edit your post and use code tags for that log output.
Also, note that you should edit posts to add more information instead of adding sequential new posts.
EDIT: I put in the code tags for you - please be sure to use them in the future.

So after my upgrade to xorg-server 1.16, my startx command required me to be on my default X tty (tty10) to startx.
I don't understand this part.
What happens when you run 'startx' the new way from any other tty?
Offline
I have already asked the OP how they start X (and why the "default" is TTY10) but they wouldn't answer, so I marked that thread for deletion: I sense this one has the same fate...
Also, not a [testing] issue, moving to NC (temporarily)....

Okay. First things first: I forgot they were code tags, and not spoiler tags. Sorry.
A few months ago, I changed some config file in /etc/X11 and set the minimum vt 10 vt10. This was so that I could get 9 gettys on the other nine f keys.
When I run startx from some other tty, it switches to the tty fine, but then the mentioned freeze happens.
New to the forum, sorry. I thought I needed some set amount of reputation to edit posts.
Edit: When I REIUB, I can get back control.
Edit 2: Also, I don't use any aliases to startx (like redirecting stdin and stderr to /dev/null) Also, I'm on zsh.

There's the problem. Please be sure to keep up with the news from the front page:
X is now rootless with the help of systemd-logind, this also means that it must be launched from the same virtual terminal as was used to log in ...
That same news entry points you to the man page that says how to set up Xorg.wrap - have you followed it? What did you do? How did it work?

As you see in my first post, I followed the manpage and also chmodded u+s and g+s the /usr/bin/Xorg.wrap file.
Here is my config file
aditya@aditya-desktop ~ [17:02:35]
> $ cat /etc/X11/Xwrapper.config
allowed_users = anybody
needs_root_rights = no
Again, it switches fine, but then freezes

Two potential issues: 1) shouldn't the "needs_root_rights" variable be yes? I haven't used Xorg.wrap yet, but that's basically the whole point of it for your case, right? 2) I see in the Xorg log, it doesn't actually show any errors, it exited successfully which usually means there was a problem (or absence of a WM) in the xinitrc. Can you post the full command used that produced this log as wel as your xinitrc?

I just did a startx.
My xinitrc (again, it works):
#!/bin/sh
#setxkbmap -option terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp
#/usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gnome-settings-daemon &
#xsetroot -solid black
#xrdb -merge ~/.Xdefaults
#unclutter -idle 2 &
numlockx &
#xsetroot -name "$( date + "%F %I:%M %p" )"
#xrdb -merge ~/.Xresources
if [ -x /usr/bin/xfce4-power-manager ] ; then
sleep 1
xfce4-power-manager &
fi
conky | while read -r; do xsetroot -name "Aditya Goturu""$REPLY"; done &
/usr/lib/mate-settings-daemon/mate-settings-daemon &
echo $(sleep 10; wmname LG3D) &
feh --bg-scale ~/Pictures/PGRND.png
/home/aditya/dwm-6.0/dwm

Would it help if I recorded a video of the problem
Offline
I tried setting needs_root_rights to yes and it still has the same results
Offline
I went for "old way" myself just by creating a file:
$ cat /etc/X11/Xwrapper.config
allowed_users = console
needs_root_rights = yes
Nothing more has to be done, and it works as expected with my old startx script. Allows you to keep stdout/stderr redirects and I can also start multiple X servers (both of these things are not possible with new rootless way, at least I didn't find some obvious way how to do it). I think these are in box "known issues" for now, what I've looked over this forum. For sake of completeness, server itself is now actually "Xorg.bin" which might be of significance (e.g., my startup script checks for that).
I suspect your problem is related with your startup script. Can you confirm the same setup you have is working without modifications with downgraded X server, and it just doesn't with new X server package with "etc/X11/Xwrapper.config" created as noted above?

Exactly the issue, there are no errors

That video isn't helpful - you need to decribe what is happening clearly. All I see in that video is a variety of things on your desktop (not computer desktop ...) nothing on the screen is legible for the few moments when the camera is actually pointed at it.
Not much in this thread has made sense, though. For example, startx should not change the tty to tty10. If you run startx on tty1 it will start x on tty1 unless you have aliased startx to something else, modified the startx script, or are not booting with systemd [1].
[1] or using logind, I'm not sure exactly which process sets the XDG_VTNR variable, but it is part of the systemd family.

No, I changed some config file that made it start from tty10. It worked fine on 1.15.

I will re-record tommorow. A little clearer.

Have you tried to undo these ominous changes, does it work then ?
Maybe you should try to fix point 3) from your list in post #1 ("Fix the freeze") as the first thing. Then, if you still absolutely need it, you can still try to restore your old behaviour. Cause currently you cannot even know if your changes are the problem or maybe something else...
Edit: In reference to below, it's most likely /etc/X11/xinit/xserverrc or ~/.xserverrc. In case you don't remember, show us their content.

Which config file did you change? How did you change it?
Isn't this the same question JWR has now asked you twice? Isn't this the same question that your refusal to answer lead to your previous thread being deleted?

After restoring the file to defaults, it works. But I would still like to have X startup on another tty (preferably tty10 and later)
