I have just got done installing my NVIDIA graphics drivers. I downloaded them from the NVIDIA website. It created an xorg.conf file, and the install was successful. When I try to start Xorg with "startx", it boots up, but my cursor freezes, and I can't do anything. Its completely frozen. Why is this happening?

Why aren't you using the arch repos for this? https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Nvidia
Moving to NC...

What's your card and which driver are you using?
Any logs? What happens if you remove the xorg.conf?
Offline
I uninstalled the drivers from NVIDIA's website, and installed the ones from the AUR. It still freezes when I start X. I removed my xorg.conf and it still freezes. I have a GTX 760. I'll post some logs when I get the chance.

Which package exactly did you install?
Why not use the stock nvidia drives i.e. the 'nvidia' package from the repos?
Offline
I did install the "nvidia" package. I accidently said AUR, instead of the official repo. I'm using 340.24 and it still freezes when I start X.
Offline
Are you using xorg-server 1.16? IS your 10-evdev.conf still there? What happens if you run 'sudo startx'?
Offline
Before you do anything else: post the logs.
Offline
Yes, I'm using 1.16 from testing. I doubt this is the problem, since I was using 1.16 when I was on Debian sid. I'll see if my 10-evdev.conf file is still there. I will not start X with sudo though. What should I do with the 10-evdev.conf file you are mentioning? I will also post the logs when I'm back on my Linux machine.

Mine also freezes immediately. Both Nvidia (from repos) and Nouveau. With Nouveau I had to use sudo because of permission complaints.
I start X inside a script like this: setsid Xorg :0.0 -noreset -nolisten tcp, and it then sources .xinitrc. .xinitrc does get processed.
But it even happened with just Xorg and no .xinitrc.
When I launched it with nouveau I did it without xorg.conf.
My graphics card is GeForce GT 320M.
vc switching and SysRQ + REISUB does nothing.
Nouveau log (this was without xorg.conf):

I just was looking at my log file, and it has the same errors as yours in terms of input devices. Each one of my devices ends with:
[ 271.877] (II) No input driver specified, ignoring this device.
This would explain why our screens freeze, since it ignores our mouse and keyboard.
I just googled the error, and it seems it might have to do with 50-udev-default.rules file. It says it remove it. I'll try that and see what happens.

Uninstall "pacman -R xf86-video-nouveau" and other video drivers, then install only "pacman -S nvidia".

I have done this already when I installed the nvidia drivers. It forced me to uninstall ati, nouveau, and mesa libgls, along with there corresponding xf86 packages. It still freezes.

Have you tried? To boot wish another Live CD which has already a Window Manager, such as Ubuntu, openSuse or any other, to be sure that you have problem with your graphic card?

I used Debian sid with Xorg server 1.16 before I moved to Arch. Debian sid worked perfectly fine, I just wanted to use a bleeding edge distro.

Which window manager are you using? Try with any different lightweight, openbox, pekwm, xorg-twm. You can start them with command like startx /usr/bin/openbox openbox-session loads all config and autostart script, but not if you run only openbox.

This is most likely not related to nvidia but to xf86-input-evdev-2.9.0-2, xorg-server-1.16.
Other ppl have reported that too (https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=184971) and I am facing the same issue.

I really hope they fix evdev. I'm so excited to finally try out Arch.
Offline
Well I'm just assuming that because I ran into the same trouble right after I upgraded xorg-server last night. And since downgrading fixed it. The xf86-input-evdev pkg seems to not have changed except for that it -2 conflicts with xorg-server<1.16.
The 10-evdev.conf in the xorg-server-1.16 also seems to have remained the same aside from being moved to this unruly new location. 10-quirks.conf did change but I don't see any reason why it would interfere with the autodetection. The same goes for the "nvidia-drm-outputclass.conf": New config file, but I don't see why that would interfere.
Did you install archlinux freshly? Because my system is running for a long time it could be that some older xorg configurations might interfere - at least in my case. But if you installed archlinux freshly and it showed that behaviour right from the beginning then the autodetection seems to be somewhat faulty.
To live out your excitement you may want to try to downgrade to xf86-input-evdev-2.9.0-1 and xorg-server-1.15.2-1. You should be able to find these "old" packages through https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/ARM.

I did a fresh install. It was my first install of Arch ever. I don't even have a 10-evdev.conf file in my xorg.conf.d folder, unless its suppose to be somewhere else. I was using 1.16 on Debian sid with no issues, so I guess Debian had an older version of evdev which prevented this bug.

Well I'm pretty sure you do have the file sine it's part of the xorg-server pakage. But since this version of the xorg-server package the config files moved to /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d - at least on arch it did. So you should be able to find it there.
But I would suggest to downgrade (find and download xf86-input-evdev-2.9.0-1 and xorg-server-1.15.2-1 through https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/ARM and then "pacman -U /path/to/xf86-input-evdev-2.9.0-1 /path/to/xorg-server-1.15.2-1") for now until this gets sorted out.

Would having the xf86-input-mouse and xf86-input-keyboard packages installed with xf86-input-evdev conflict with eachother, causing this issue?
Offline
I'm surprised to see you have them installed, evdev is used for everything for a long time now. So you should safely be able to remove the xf86-input-keyboard and xf86-input-mouse. Then you should be able to downgrade xorg-server + -input-evdev as described above so you can finally dive into arch with a running xorg. Or if you're uncomfortable with uninstalling -input-mouse/keyboard find and download on the arch rollback machine the version/pkgrel before the one you have currently installed. To find out what version you have installed ask pacman (pacman -Qi xf86-input-keyboard xf86-input-mouse).
Actually just out of curiosity, before you uninstall or downgrade input-keyboard/mouse would you be so kind and tell me what the "Install Reason" (either dependency or explicitly installed) was? And if it was pulled in as a dependency, what package pulled them in ("Required By" field). You'll get this information from "pacman -Qi xf86-input-keyboard xf86-input-mouse".
Offline
I just did "sudo pacman -S xorg", and it seems to have installed them. I have the testing repo active. Maybe this has something to do with it?
EDIT:
I did a minimal install of xorg, with the packages "xorg-server, xorg-server-utils, and xorg-xinit", but it still doesn't work.

DaMadOne found a workaround for this. You must put "AutoAddDevices" "false" to the "ServerLayout" portion of the xorg.conf. You must also have "xf86-input-keyboard" and xf86-input-mouse" installed. This solution only works with certain window managers and desktop environments. It works perfectly fine with evilwm. This will have to suffice until evdev is fixed.
