XBMC Not starting from systemd service unit after latest Xorg update

Hi, all.
Yesterday I updated my packages. between them I got the latest xbmc update and Xorg that went into stable.

My setup consists of an ArchLinux system without a DE but with the XBMC systemd service unit enabled to start at boot. Since the latest update this is failing.
Looking at journalctl I see the following output:

journalctl -u xbmc
-- Reboot --
Jul 30 20:40:09 MyPc systemd[320]: pam_unix(login:session): session opened for user xbmc by (uid=0)
Jul 30 20:40:24 MyPc xinit[320]: /usr/bin/xinit: unable to connect to X server: Connection refused
Jul 30 20:40:24 MyPc systemd[1]: xbmc.service: main process exited, code=exited, status=1/FAILURE
Jul 30 20:40:24 MyPc systemd[1]: Unit xbmc.service entered failed state.
Jul 30 20:40:24 MyPc xinit[320]: /usr/bin/xinit: server error

Because of the way I initiate XBMC, Xorg logs are located at

 /var/lib/xbmc/.local/share/xorg/

.

This bit:

[ 591.468] (EE) xf86OpenConsole: Cannot open /dev/tty0 (No such file or directory)

I'm guessing is related to the issue, but not sure how or what to do. Anyone has any insights?

Thanks in advance.

I can only say that you're not alone: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 7#p1441397

Have you tried starting it by hand to figure out what magic incantation works?

Ha. Thanks Karol. I didn't think that topic applied because of the title. But looking at the contents... wink

Re: XBMC Not starting from systemd service unit after latest Xorg update

I'm having a similar issue:

jul 30 21:06:15 arch-htpc xinit[279]: /usr/bin/Xorg.wrap: Only console users are allowed to run the X server
jul 30 21:06:30 arch-htpc xinit[279]: /usr/bin/xinit: giving up
jul 30 21:06:30 arch-htpc xinit[279]: /usr/bin/xinit: unable to connect to X server: Connection refused
jul 30 21:06:30 arch-htpc xinit[279]: /usr/bin/xinit: server error
jul 30 21:06:30 arch-htpc systemd[1]: xbmc.service: main process exited, code=exited, status=1/FAILURE
jul 30 21:06:30 arch-htpc systemd[1]: Unit xbmc.service entered failed state.

And Xorg.log is empty/nonexistent if I move the old one.

Bug report about this issue is located here, by the way.

Re: XBMC Not starting from systemd service unit after latest Xorg update

I've tried running different variations of the Exec command that is in the unit file to no avail. All of them end up with me having to reboot the computer hmm
