I recently installed pulseaudio to use with the newest version of Skype, which I run under a separate user. If I am running any app making use of the sound system on my main user, say Clementine (media player), and then try to reproducte the Skype test sound, the reproduction will block until I mute the first app. Likewise for any other sound, like notifications or a test call. I've never used pulseaudio before and, after searching the forum, wiki and Google, I don't seem to find whether this is an expected behaviour or can be fixed by configuration parameters. Talking of which, all my audio config files are vanilla, no custom .asoundrc or the like. I will, of course, provide any you need to try and help with the issue.
Thank you!
Solution: Use the instance of pulseaudio for the subsequent user(s) as a network client of the main instance. Documentation: http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Softwar … r/Network/

Search again, there should be numerous thread about this particular issue and similar cases. Next time provide needed information in OP. You are probably missing pulseaudio-alsa package or pulseaudio has suspend-on-idle module loaded.
Edit: I misunderstood it, my bad. Search for Rasi's posts instead.

I wasn't sure what information to provide as pulseaudio was working just fine after I followed the wiki instructions, except for that issue.
It seems like sending sound from one instance to another over TCP might be the solution. Thanks for pointing me to Rasi's posts! I will update the thread when I manage to fix it.
