Setting up a user activity log

I'm interested in having a user activity log, something that will record "when" and "what" I run on my computer. After searching the Internet pretty intensely I was only able to find the GNU Accounting Utilities. It's available in the AUR. I have no problem with installing packages from the AUR, but I am a bit surprised that the only software I was able to come up with isn't even in the official repositories.

Do you have any other software suggestions for user activity logging software?

I think all I want is something that'll record what gets run and the timestamp it gets run at. It has nothing to do with security (I'm pretty much the only person who uses my computer). I'm just interested in remembering what I did and when I did it, and maybe tracking that data over time to see my computer usage habits (just for fun).

What about combining the Linux Audit Framework (auditd) with Kibana?

A quite interesting combo.

Not exactly what you want, but /var/log/auth.log (not sure if it's available with systemd) contains the launch times and commands that you run as root.

Have you tried recording your terminal session? If your prompt has a time and date on it, it may be all you need right there.

I did. Despite how much I use the terminal, I think it would be handy to also know when I'm browsing Reddit too much in Firefox.

...Ooh. Maybe a Firefox plugin? KISS, right?
