Dropbox tray icon in Plasma 5

Hello,

is it possible to show the dropbox tray icon into Plasma 5 tray?

What I have is:

* plasma-desktop (AUR)
* dropbox (AUR)
** dropbox is running as a systemd daemon (as described in the wiki)

In KDE 4 everything works fine, in Plasma 5 the dropbox process starts but I see no tray icon.

Here's a bit of an explanation why it won't show up: http://blog.martin-graesslin.com/blog/2 … asma-next/

That said, am not sure if there's an applet out there which delivers legacy support for apps that use xembed for tray icons.

I see... So the upcoming port of the dropbox client to Qt 5 solve this, right?

Re: Dropbox tray icon in Plasma 5

It should, but it all depends on how it's done. I suspect that we'll all have to use some kind of an additional systray applet specially for apps that still use xembed, as a legacy compatibility solution. But, yes, as more apps switch to Qt5 and more and more non kde/qt apps get support for libindicator, the need for such compatibility will disappear.
As explained in that article, biggest problem are proprietary apps (Skype is one of most notable), as they usuall need a lot more time to follow up.
