Why Celestia conflicts with Mesa?!
Celestia uses OpenGL, Mesa is implementation of OpenGL, so Celestia should require Mesa, not conflict with it!

...and new versin is out but same problem. Same problem is with Stellarium too.

I added a comment in flyspray. The new version of celestia depends and conflicts on mesa at the same time.

I built by myself but IMO Celestia has a problem with ATI drivers. I had the same problem with ATI drivers on SuSE:
