PS3 controller (dualshock 3) seemingly not PnP

I'm trying to use my DS3 controller with Arch for the Dolphin emulator, but my controller does not seem to exist to the OS after being plugged in and having the PS button pressed.

In terms of libraries to get it working with the emulator, yes, I have installed the correct version of SDL. Yeah, that's pretty much it, as far as I've checked.

No idea what could be causing this issue.

If it has any effect, I did use this controller in Windows via MiJ for quite some time and it's started to become a little sporadic as to when it will work, so I'll check if a restart fixes this and, if it doesn't, this topic is useful.

I would test the controller in an environment where it is known to be working.  If it sporadically failed to work in Windows then the hardware itself might be failing.

Yes, that seems as though it may be the case. A restart produced no gains, either, which is odd and points to either a controller problem or a missing driver. Will test it on the PS3 tomorrow (it's really late at night right now, and all of my family is asleep. I don't think they'd appreciate me going to the living room and using the PS3 to comfortably do what they believe to be piracy)

Yeah, testing it might be a good idea. It's been awhile but my old DS3 always worked perfectly fine after plugging it in no drivers required. I even have a cheap 5-10ish dollar ps3 controller that works the same.
