Chromium not displaying github properly.

I am on arch linux with the newest chromium.  It does not display github properly, even though I have installed the ttf packages that I read fixed rendering issues.  This is what a github repo looks like on chromium: http://i.imgur.com/pN6QSRp.png  Firefox displays it correctly.  Also, the encoding is set to UTF-8 and the font is droid sans (I tried many fonts)

Re: Chromium not displaying github properly.

Chromium 36.0.1985.125 is the version I am on,  I also recently uninstalled it and re-installed it, but it is still not working

Re: Chromium not displaying github properly.

BTW, Welcome to Arch Linux smile

Okay, so what is your window manager / desktop environment? What is your video Hardware? Are you using a compositor?
Have you created a new user and tried it without any existing chromium configuration?
Has it ever worked?

Re: Chromium not displaying github properly.

I too am using i3wm (nice wm choice) on x86-64.  No compositor that I know of,  I just installed the i3 package and the xinit one.  My GPU is a gtx 770.  I'll try a new user now.  EDIT: Nope, still broken

Re: Chromium not displaying github properly.

Ok, well that little D2 looking thing after 'OREUtils/' is supposed to be a '+'

Here is the code that performs that magic:

<form action="/login?return_to=%2FOpenRedstoneEngineers%2FOREUtilsV2" aria-label="Sign in to make or propose changes" class="js-new-blob-form tooltipped tooltipped-e new-file-link" method="post"><span aria-label="Sign in to make or propose changes" class="js-new-blob-submit octicon octicon-plus" data-test-id="create-new-git-file" role="button"></span></form>

So, it does not look like a font thing (on the surface).  Let's go look at the js-new-blub-submit class and where does octicon-plus come from...

I couldn't find what you posted in the source, maybe because I'm logged onto github?

Re: Chromium not displaying github properly.

... and it is really ugly obfuscated stuff.

Are you behind a corporate firewall that might be blocking some of your access?  Can you try clearing your cache and trying again?  (I'm not hopeful since a new user did not help)

EDIT: No, that does not make sense... Firefox worked :?
Edit2:  What extensions do you have installed?  Again, I'm not hopeful because of the new user.

Could be.   I drilled down through the various <div> elements until I isolated that + symbol.

Re: Chromium not displaying github properly.

It isn't the extensions, I've tried w/ no extensions.  Also, no corporate firewall.

Re: Chromium not displaying github properly.

What do you see on this page?  Especially row 12 column 1.  Is it a plus?

Oh, check this page.  Note 2.  Do you have an Ociticons font installed?

BTW, I think I was wrong.  The class I pointed out does seem to use these icons, but they do implement them as a font.

Re: Chromium not displaying github properly.

That page displays just as incorrectly as github, none of the icons work, most are just the little boxes for no character found.
EDIT: When I install ttf-octicons from the AUR, most of the icons started to work.  However, the weird script characters and such are still there, and the directory list thing has no icons, as well as the contributors having no icons

Re: Chromium not displaying github properly.

It mostly works, but as I said some of the icons are still the weird script things, and some don't appear at all

Re: Chromium not displaying github properly.

But, do you have the font actually installed in Arch?  I do not.  It does exist in AUR.   If you have it installed, perhaps that is the issue.

ewaller$@$odin ~ 1001 %packer -Ss octicons
aur/ttf-octicons 2.1.1-1 (3)
    GitHub's octicons TrueType font
ewaller$@$odin ~ 1002 %pacman -Qs octicons
ewaller$@$odin ~ [1]1003 %

Re: Chromium not displaying github properly.

It wasn't working at all, then I installed it from the AUR, and it now mostly works

Re: Chromium not displaying github properly.

I am running out of ideas.  I am also about to call it an night.
How about plugins?  They are common across all users.  Check about:plugins for anything weird.  How about a proxy?  Any chance you are using one?

Re: Chromium not displaying github properly.

No proxy, tried disabling all plugins but the error persists, but at least it is useable now

Re: Chromium not displaying github properly.

Hey, I just updated my system, and Chromium 36 was sucked in.  You might try it and see if the situation improves.
