I recently acquired a WinTV-HVR 1250 card for my computer, but right when I plugged it in and booted, I had no internet.
I have confirmed that adding the card consistently blocks my network connection, and remove it fixes the problem.
I have a Realtek RTL8111/8168/8411 Ethernet Controller and I have installed the r8168 module and blacklisted the r8169 module.
I tried adding "options cx23885 card=3" to a file in /etc/modprobe.d but that didn't seem to work either.
As far as I can tell, this card should work out of the box unless I missed something. Can anyone help me figure out what's wrong?
On thing I notice is that it seems to be trying to do something with enp4s0, even though my device is named enp5s0; but I have no idea why it's trying to do that.

Did you try another pci[e] socket? See if you get more information using the debug or irq_debug parameter as the module options. There are also some other debug ones for specific subsystems, run 'modinfo cx23885'. I only skimmed through the logs, maybe you could filter the relevant part out.

The modinfo was for you, so that you can take a look at parameters and load the module cx23885 with them:
modprobe cx23885 debug=1 irq_debug=1See if they are loaded with:
systool -v -m cx23885I would try to figure out if there are very similar models and then load them with card parameter. You do have the necessary firmware? I found this old thread.

I did all that as you said, but I managed to figure out the problem.
It turns out that the new card renamed my network interface to enp5s0, and dhcpcd and all my status displays were set to enp4s0 still.a few quick reconfigured fixed the problem. Thanks for the help though.
(Also for just for anyone who might come across this thread with similar problems, this card doesn't need any firmware: http://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/H … V-HVR-1250 )
