After installing Hawaii DE, attempting to start gives blank screen

Hello again,

I installed the Hawaii DE via pacman -Syu hawaii-meta-git, and then downgraded Mesa to the 10.0.3 recommended to avoid a bug. I am able to start Weston normally from command line with weston-launch. However, when start hawaii, by typing simply hawaii, I arrive at a black screen (illuminated from behind). I seem to be unable to get out of this black screen by ctrl-alt-backspace (which quits weston), ctrl-C, ctrl-Z, or (in desperation) chanting sudo commands "into the void". However, pressing the power button shows me arch scrambling to unmount everything so I know there is still something there. I've search online forums and encountered others who may have had this problem, but in all cases the solution was missing or did not work. I have attempted a full reinstall of hawaii, to no effect.

I'm not sure where I'd look for error messages to show what went wrong. Can anybody help?

Thanks in advance!

Re: After installing Hawaii DE, attempting to start gives blank screen

maomao123, topias123 hawaii-meta-git is in AUR, not in any official arch repos.

I assume this is the bug :  http://www.maui-project.org/news/2014/0 … rch-linux/ ?

If so, check https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=74005 .

At the bottom several people state that the problem has been fixed in mesa-git .
Try building AUR mesa-git or use Lordheavy's unofficial mesa-git repo

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

clean chroot building not flexible enough ?
Try clean chroot manager by graysky

I have exactly the same problem. You can press CTRL-ALT-F2, login and 'killall weston'. The mesa-git package in AUR is broken.

Moving to AUR issues...

Arch + dwm   •   Mercurial repos  •   Surfraw

Golradir, then try Lordheavy's repo .

(The bug report only speaks about the intel 915 driver, and my mesa-r*-git package doesn't include that driver so won't help).
