When trying to follow the wiki for changing the background of GDM before logon, it's asking to do this:
touch /etc/dconf/db/gdm.d/01-background
However, the folder /etc/dconf doesn't exist on my system, although dconf is installed.
When searching the forums I've found this and this. But they also talk about the /etc/dconf folder..
I'm probably missing something obvious here, can someone point it out to me?
Thank you for your help.

Did you try the suggestion in the first thread you linked? It also talks about the Wiki being out-of-date.

Well, actually they suggest a lot of things in that post. First someone suggests this:
echo -e "[org/gnome/desktop/background]\npicture-uri='file:///opt/login/wallpaper.jpg'" > /etc/dconf/db/gdm.d/01-background
# cp [YOUR FILE] /opt/login/wallpaper.jpg
# dconf update
But because I don't have the 'dconf' folder, it seems that's not a solution that I can use. Someone else suggested to try 'gdm3setup.py', but this doesn't do anything on my install...

The thread you linked clearly says the solution was to put it here:
/usr/share/gnome-shell/theme/...Is this what you tried?

Thank you loafer, it's now clear to me. I found also extra info here: http://www.webupd8.org/2012/11/how-to-c … -lock.html that confirms that I have to replace the following image:
/usr/share/gnome-shell/theme/noise-texture.pngQuestion, as mentioned in the previous thread, how does the wiki gets updated? Is this something we need to do or do we need to report this somewhere?
Thanks again for your help.
