It looks like there is a command line way of setting the fan on nvidia according to the wiki.  It should work on this card?  Is this what you did to get the fan under control on your card?


I may have to CONSOLE you about your usage of ridiculously easy graphical interfaces...

It looks like I may want to use coolbits options in Xorg.conf or possibly this.

Hmm... I just tried a nvidia-304xx on a GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 rev a2 which would be in the same series as the 6100 I was trying earlier.  It seems to be working, without freeze locking at 1280*1024 but when I run nvidia-settings -q gpucoretemp there's not a temp to report.  Does it not have a gpu or fan and the coolbits options were for overclocking the gpu and fans.  But does coolbits have to be enabled to get gpu temps?  I was running  the other card at 1080p and was freeze locking.

I resolved installing:
sudo pacman -S nvidia-lts
