I am trying to switch my keyboard layout to a more Apple-based style such as using Command instead of Control for copy and paste, and I do want to switch the keys for switching apps. Right now it's mapped to Opt/Alt+Tab. I'd like that to be Cmd+tab as well.
I tried this: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1729522 and it did not work for me.
I am using MATE and using the included Keyboard settings in the Layout tab. I added English (US) English (Macintosh) and it didn't work. I then chose Keyboard model Apple Macintosh, then Apple MacBook/MacBook Pro then Macintosh which provided an error of: Error activating XKB configuration.
It can happen under various circumstances:
• a bug in libxklavier library
• a bug in X server (xkbcomp, xmodmap utilities)
• X server with incompatible libxkbfile implementation
X server version data:
The X.Org Foundation
11600000
If you report this situation as a bug, please include:
• The result of xprop -root | grep XKB
• The result of gsettings list-keys org.mate.peripherals-keyboard-xkb.kbd
I then also tried Apple Aluminum Keyboard (ISO) which also provided that same error.
None of the ones that did not error out worked properly to use Cmd instead of Ctrl.
I have tried manually mapping xmodmap and that failed.
I am confused as how to proceed.
My Macbook Pro is from mid 2012 and is considered model 9,2. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.
ETA: I've still not been able to fix this. It is very frustrating. Any help?
