Hi everyone,
I don't know after which upgrade this happened but the backlight is not adjustable anymore on my laptop.
Although Gnome shows the backlight popup when I press the key for lowering it nothing happens apart from going completely off when it reaches the lowest setting.
The service systemd.backlight outputs the following:
systemd-backlight@backlight:intel_backlight.service - Load/Save Screen Backlight Brightness of backlight:intel_backlight
Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/systemd-backlight@.service; static)
Active: active (exited) since Sat 2014-09-06 09:05:56 BST; 3h 19min ago
Docs: man:systemd-backlight@.service(8)
Process: 296 ExecStart=/usr/lib/systemd/systemd-backlight load %i (code=exited, status=0/SUCCESS)
Main PID: 296 (code=exited, status=0/SUCCESS)
Sep 06 09:05:56 chris systemd[1]: Started Load/Save Screen Backlight Brightness of backlight:intel_backlight.
dmesg doesn't output anything when I try to adjust it.
Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers,
Chris

If you're using an Intel card, you need to add this to your kernel parameters to regain backlight control with kernel 3.16:
video.use_native_backlight=0
