Slowdown after upgrade

I jsut did a nice fresh install late lastnight and i know this wasnt happening before I reinstalled. Now it takes me a really long time to get X up and running and also Mozilla FireFox takes a really long time to load up. Along with any other browser i have tried. Also my internet seems to sometimes not work. The net thing happens randomly and is jsut like it freezes up for 2-5 min. Jsut wondering if anyone knows of a possable problem/salution. I have talked to a couple of other people that seem to be having the same exact problem after upgradeing lastnight.

Re: Slowdown after upgrade

can you provide more details?

such as whether or not th upgrade went well, what de/mw you are using, kind of internet connection, ...

did you check to make sure that all of your config files were not replaced? most key ones willnot have been but some may have been and depending on which ones that could cause issues.

Re: Slowdown after upgrade

sorry, everything seemed to go jsut fine with the upgrade. I do know it only updated the base packs becasue I upgraded pacman before doing anything.  I am useing Enlightenment and am on a 512kbps ADSL connection. I will check out the config files and get back to you on thouse.

Re: Slowdown after upgrade

Jsut checked my main config files and everything seemed ok. My modules.conf was saved as modules.conf.pacsave and i fixed that. i will have to see if that fixed my internet problem. All though i havnt been having much problems with that so much today as lastnight. One other conf i changed was my inetd.conf was saved as inetd.conf.pacsave.  Thats about it. I am still for sure having the slowness porblems though.

Re: Slowdown after upgrade

well inetd should have been removed altogether as it was a part of netkit-base i believe. i would hit the main arch site and readup on the various changes with respect to inetd/xinetd. there was also something aroung that time about adding certain daemons or adjusting the order of daemons in rc.conf . read those make any changes you need to and see if that helps any.

Re: Slowdown after upgrade

good idea. Jsut to let you know my net still "freezes" every now and then. now it seems the only way to fix it is to close my browser and reopen it, wich really sucks because it takes forever to open.

Re: Slowdown after upgrade

always make sure you upgrade pacman first

and i always just do a base install, upgrade pacman, upgrade base, add. it avoids a whole host of potential problems. better yet do a net install.

Re: Slowdown after upgrade

yeah thats exactly what i usally do. this time i did not do pacman -Syu. so far that has taken care of the problem. im going to try and upgrade everything one by one and see if i can weed out what is giving me problems.

Re: Slowdown after upgrade

I bet it was some config file be updated somewhere.  Be very conscious of the messages pacman spits out.

Try updating the X fonts cache.

Run fc-cache (in root) and then re-boot your system:
# fc-cache

Re: Slowdown after upgrade

My hosts file looks jsut fine. What exactly did you have to change? Also, X and my browsers take a lot more time to open than 2-3 seconds on my Athlon 2500+.I dont know if this is my problem or not.

I had one of the otherpeople I know that had the same problem tell me that was the way he fixed his too. but i havnt had any problems with it connecting to localhost.localdomain. But the good news is i reinstalled again early this morning and ran pacman -Syu while i slept and when i woke up, all was better. Thanks for your help guys. Hopefully thats what was wrong and if i run across anyone else with the problem it is easably fixed.
