LCD power saving not working (linux-mainline 3.17rc4-1)

Hello.  I'm using linux-mainline (linux-mainline 3.17rc4-1) from the AUR here https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/linux-mainline/ .  I've noticed for the past two RC candidates (I just recently started using mainline) I have tried everything else seems to be working but monitor powersaving is not working either automatically or with 'xset dpms force standby' or 'xset dpms force suspend'.

The strange thing is that it works fine with the regular kernel in core.  I know from the PKGBUILD in AUR it is using olddefconfig so in theory it should be working as it does in core.

Is there something I might be missing here or is this perhaps just a bug in the RC kernels?

I am using nouveau in core.
