No sound from speakers before suspend

Hello,

I have issue with speakers. After system start, there is no sound from them. But after I suspend the notebook and resume it again, they works.
I have no idea where to find the answer. On what this issue depends. I didn't find nothing similar on another web pages.

Re: No sound from speakers before suspend

You provide no information on your system whatsoever. Post some basic information about your sound hardware:

aplay -lL;
lspci -vnn | grep -A1 -i audio;
lsmod | grep ^snd;
for i in /proc/asound/card[0-9]*; do echo "--- $i ---";amixer -c $(cat $i/id); done;
lsusb #if it is a usb sound card;
# or use the alsa-info script

The important aspect would be the loading parameters of the modules involved, which probably includes snd-hda-intel.

systool -vm snd_hda_intel

Run this before and after suspending. Also try reloading the module before suspending, read 'man modprobe'.

Edit: Could related to auto-mute, does the headphone jack output sound before/after suspend?

Re: No sound from speakers before suspend

Hello,

sorry for delay. I had to reproduce the issue. It doesn't occur every boot.
Sound card is internal. Headphone jack does output sound before/after suspend without change.

Adding logs:

Re: No sound from speakers before suspend

Did you configure the sound via modprobe options? If no, then you should do that, since both cards use the same module. In your case this should work, since the igpu is listed first.

$ cat /etc/modprobe.d/50-alsa.conf
options snd-hda-intel index=1,0

Reboot afterwards and try to reproduce it. When the issue reoccurs, post 'aplay -l', should the hdmi be card 0 with the above modprobe options, check also dmesg and journalctl for anything sound|hda|audio|warning|error related.

Edit: Partial/wrong link.

Re: No sound from speakers before suspend

I'm using this:

cat /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
options snd_hda_intel index=1
options snd-hda-intel index=0 model=auto vid=8086 pid=9c20
options snd-hda-intel index=1 model=auto vid=8086 pid=0a0c

I added it once, when I tried to make the speaker/headphones work.
I don't know now if this change anything, so I didn't remove the file.

Re: No sound from speakers before suspend

You can drop vid and pid, see 'dmesg | grep hda_intel'. Use the one I suggested now.

Re: No sound from speakers before suspend

What tries to load ac97_quirk?

Aug 30 09:07:58 podhorskyjiri kernel: snd_hda_intel: unknown parameter 'ac97_quirk' ignored

Is there more configuration for modprobe? Check /etc/modprobe.d.

I thought that was the goal, did 'speaker-test -c 2 -t wav -D plug:default' work? Did you get sound from speakers before suspend?

Re: No sound from speakers before suspend

hmmm, i found in modprobe.conf these rows:

blacklist snd-intel8x0m
options snd-hda-intel ac97_quirk=1
options snd-hda-intel model=laptop

I don't remember, if I added they in the past, but after I removed it, I'm not able to reproduce the issue.

I will keep trying.

But thanks, I didn't look to this file, because I thought there is default configuration, which is right.

 A good habit is to add 'echo $(date '+%d.%m.%y') >> configuration file' and/or some other comments when editing it. Should you consider this issue solved, then please mark the thread as such.

Don't pay attention to time stamps, I had wrongly set time and time was synchronized by ntp to right in second log.

This quirk is not for snd-hda-intel, use options in one line, like I already suggested. I do not see any options for your model than the standard snd-hda-intel options, which include power management parameters..
