Can't insert snd-sb16 anymore

[root@radioclient1 scripts]# modprobe snd-sb16
FATAL: Error inserting snd_sb16 (/lib/modules/2.6.15-ARCH/kernel/sound/isa/sb/snd-sb16.ko): No such device

This used to work with the older kernels. alsaconf still finds the soundcard but can't seem to insert the modules. Is there some way around this?

It's an ISA PnP Vibra16

Re: Can't insert snd-sb16 anymore

i would think this is because you don't have any isa bridge modules loaded.

Re: Can't insert snd-sb16 anymore

Could you elaborate on that a bit?

I have another completely identical machine that is functioning... and I don't see anything in its lsmod that isn't in the broken machine's lsmod, except the sound devices that refused to load.

Thanks!

Re: Can't insert snd-sb16 anymore

heh i can't elaborate on it because i don't have an isa bridge. i would think you need a module loaded to access those devices.

the identical machine is running the same kernel, and also has an ISA sound card?

Re: Can't insert snd-sb16 anymore

the identical machine is running the same hardware, except the sound card is the non PNP version of the one I'm trying to get to work in this machine. It's also ISA. That shouldn't make a really big difference, should it?

Also, I've not seen any modules for isa bridges. Ever.

Re: Can't insert snd-sb16 anymore

it appears you are correct. having looked through /boot/kconfig26, ISA stuff is compiled directly into the kernel.
