[Solved] Graphics card detected in livecd but not after installation

Hello,

When using install iso from 2013.05 I can see graphics card listed correctly in HDT and after booting live cd:

lspci | grep VGA
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation NV5M64 [RIVA TNT2 Model 64/Model 64 Pro] (rev 15)

After performing basic installation (comparable to the one described in beginners' guide) and booting installed system, the device is not seen anymore by lspci.

Any hints what might be wrong?
Might that be related to the other problem observed by me on the same machine? https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=187108

Re: [Solved] Graphics card detected in livecd but not after installation

You know that when you perform the basic installation, it pulls in the latest packages from the ArchLinux servers and installs those, not the packages from 2013.05, right? That will probably have something to do with it.

Is there a reason you're using the 2013.05 installation ISO over a later version?

You have nouveau-dri and xorg-video-nouveau and what does lspci show?  I have an older nvidia and it works ok.

I may have to CONSOLE you about your usage of ridiculously easy graphical interfaces...

Re: [Solved] Graphics card detected in livecd but not after installation

@clfarron4
Yes, I know that current packages are being pulled during installation.
As described in the other thread,  I will have to look at differences between kernel versions 3.10.10 and 3.11.2.

@nomorewindows
Problem occurs even if I have no graphics drivers installed at all - just basic setup to log in.
lspci does not detect the device at first place

lspci
00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation 440BX/ZX/DX - 82443BX/ZX/DX Host bridge (rev 02)
00:01.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 440BX/ZX/DX - 82443BX/ZX/DX AGP bridge (rev 02)
00:04.0 ISA bridge: Intel Corporation 82371AB/EB/MB PIIX4 ISA (rev 02)
00:04.1 IDE interface: Intel Corporation 82371AB/EB/MB PIIX4 IDE (rev 01)
00:04.2 USB controller: Intel Corporation 82371AB/EB/MB PIIX4 USB (rev 01)
00:04.3 Bridge: Intel Corporation 82371AB/EB/MB PIIX4 ACPI (rev 02)
00:0b.0 Multimedia audio controller: C-Media Electronics Inc CMI8738/CMI8768 PCI Audio (rev 10)
00:0c.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL-8029(AS)
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation NV5 [Riva TNT2 Model 64 / Model 64 Pro] (rev 15)

The last lspci line is visible when booted from livecd (2013.09) but is missing when booted from installed system.

What does linux-lts do for you?

Well, it solves the problem of the VGA device detection on installed system smile
Thank you, nomorewindows!

You might want to report that upstream. Eventually the linux-lts being used will be more recent and you will have this problem again.
