Same here, looking at the changelog it doesn't look like the patch made it in 3.16.2-1.
I had patched the previous kernel before and it took about 5 hours on my old m11x. I made the mistake of upgrading the kernel without checking and i915 broke again. Fortunately graysky's linux-ck packages have the patch applied, so I just installed the generic one for the time being and everything is fine.
As a recent Arch convert, it's pretty amazing to see the community at work

Nope, the patch hasn't made it into 3.16.2-1 as I had hoped it would. Reverted to my older kernel. I'm guessing it's only going to make it in 3.17.

Why not just compile it yourself with the patch or use the packages I provide in repo-ck until upstream merges the patch?

Installed ck-core2 and the problem is still there.
Is the patch applied to ck-core2 branch as well or should I just install the ck-generic kernel?

Thanks @graysky. I did consider compiling it with the patch but got a little busy. I'll now take a stab at your repo-ck.
I followed the thread pertaining to the patch (https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=82481#c8) with great interest. Clearly the guys and gals who give their time and energy to keep Linux humming along work hard and long - full credit to you all! It is deeply appreciated.

Yes, applied to all flavors.

@smldis - YW.
@all - I have seen several Arch bug reports where in problems are reported related to i915. The patch I apply to linux-ck and linux-ck-* may help with your specific problem or it may not. I can only verify that the patch fixes the 'render ring failure to init/declaring it wedged' problem I experienced on an older X4500HD system. Not sure why Doug closed and dupped my FS#41683 though...

Thank you, flexo, your recompiled files work very well!
Don’t know if it is very secure for my system and network to use kernel files from totally unknown sources, but who lives forever?

I am also facing this problem. I have Openbox.
dmesg | grep ERROR
output is
[ 9.003390] [drm:init_ring_common] *ERROR* render ring initialization failed ctl 0001f001 (valid? 1) head 00000298 tail 00000000 start 00303000 [expected 00303000]
[ 9.003409] [drm:i915_gem_init] *ERROR* Failed to initialize GPU, declaring it wedged
uname -r
output is
3.16.2-1-ARCH
I am not able to run any video. I have tried vlc and smplayer. I get following error message.
intel_do_flush_locked failed: Invalid argument

Yes, the devs haven't applied the patch.

Just wanted to say I had the same problem and the repo-ck fixed it for me too. Thank you!

Weird, kernel 3.16.3-1 solved the problem for me... Or maybe I just did something wrong while re-enabling i915 in my mkinitcpio.conf... But I don't think so

Thanks a lot @graysky, I have to admit I tried applying the patch to both 3.16-1 and 3.16-2 but unfortunately it didn't solve the problem. That is, until I switched to your ck repos and the results were great, thank you!
On a side note, I noticed that for some reason I'm only able to change the backlight brightness at bootup. I this something to be expected due to acer's drivers, or... does anyone else have this happening? I'm on an eMachines D728, with an Intel GMA 4500M, by the way.

the same f***ing problem here too. Still no solution with kernel 3.16.3-1 . How many time again to a good kernel?

@blauman - Just patch it until either 1) the Arch dev team applies it or 2) upstream queues it up for a stable release.
EDIT: looks like this is now queued for 3.16.4, https://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kerne … ring.patch

Same here. The ck repo did not to the trick, but the download provided in #57 works like a charm.
Thanks flexo!

Excellent. Also read on a Greg Kroah-Hartman post on G+ that kernel 3.17 is also near final status.
