================================================
The scroll wheel does not scroll up or down.  Have tried, ExplorerPS2, auto,psaux....
I have a PS/2 mouse connected and a logitech optical USB mouse attached.
Neither scrolls but both provide a desktop window of the selected desktop URL when the wheel is pressed.

I am in xorg 7 with latest upgrade.

Something is missing in the xorg.conf to cause such a perplexing problem which many have solved but mine remains :evil:

Re: Another scroll wheel problem(Solved)

your config looks ok. I have the same exact mouse setup as you this is my conf:

    Identifier  "Mouse1"
    Driver      "mouse"
    Option "Protocol"    "IMPS/2"
    Option "Device"      "/dev/input/mice"
    Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"

You do have xf86-input-mouse installed right?

Pnguin;
Yep, the  xf86-input-mouse file is installed via pacman.

Thinking it may be a kde problem.....

Re: Another scroll wheel problem(Solved)

Kde changed the mail handling which I cannot setup to run which supports my feeling it is a kde issue for the scroll mouse.

Re: Another scroll wheel problem(Solved)

I seriously doubt its kde, works fine for me. Maybe your config is wrong although it looks like you used the prefered Xorg -configure method....

Re: Another scroll wheel problem(Solved)

The problem lives on....

I have googled for moe background and find much info regarding the subject but much of it is xf86 related on kernel24.

Some of the data applies to multi-button mouse devices.

The instruction for Logitech usually ends up with the "4 5" entry for ZAxisMapping.

Examining the xorg.conf provided by the xorgconfig entry, I find that it provides all the elements pertinent to my system except the USB mouse.  All of the fonts are prepared, the changes to rgb and modules paths are entered, my video card is identified and the monitor is correctly defined.  If this data is well-defined, why isn't my USB Mouse identified?

Entries made into xorg.conf are enabled after restart of X.  Since my system has KDE superimposed, I must either restart or start a new session to enable the xorg.conf changes.

According to most arch-related posts on the subject, the entries for ZAxis are "4 5".  Some solve the problem with "6 7"

The data supplied by the xorgconfigure setup places the ZAxisMapping at "4 5 6 7" for my Logitech 2 button plus scroll wheel mouse.

Some test with xev...no response with my mouse in xev.

The mouse params are addressed in KDE which suggests it may negate the xorg entries.

My mouse works correctly in windows 2000.

Obviously, the parameters provided by xorgconfigure are inadequate since they do not even recognize the presence of USBmouse.

Therefore, the problem seems to be inherent to xorgconfigure which should be able to determine the presence of USB mouse and also the number of buttons required in ZAxisMapping,mebbe?

My mouse still sleeps instead of scrolling.  What to do?

Re: Another scroll wheel problem(Solved)

Discovered that I could get the scroll to work by changing xorg.conf as follows;

     Section  "InputDevice"
                     Identifier    "Mouse0"
                     Driver          "mouse"
                     Option         "Protocol"  "IMPS/2"
                      Option         "Device"   "dev/input/mice"
                      Option         "ZAxisMapping"   "4 5"
     EndSection
==============================================

I assume this selection of "dev'input/mice" is needed because I have two mouse  devices with the use of USB.
