xorg7, keyboard up is somehow binded with xf86audioplay

xev tells me keycode is 98
gnome keyboard shortcuts tells me it is XF86AudioPlay

left, down, and right appear to be fine.

xorg.conf has this...
XkbRules "xorg"
XkbModel "pc105"
XkbLayout ""
XkbVariant ""

damn...i never realized how important up is for the CLI
any help greatly appreciated.  cheers!
